GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! WEDNESDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Wednesday 4th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
Is it spring already? It certainly feels that way this morning! Stepping out into the garden I can hear the sound of somebody mowing their lawn, a few cheerful birds chattering away and very little else. The winds have almost completely disappeared, leaving a flat blue sea with a couple of sailboats in the distance merrily navigating their way around the island. This seems to be the general outlook for the next week or so and very thankful we are for it too. The predicted temperatures for today are a maximum of 16° celcius (62° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 12°C (53°F), a bit of a jump from yesterday.
For today's photo I've chosen the Hotel Torre Sant'Angelo in Panza. Located in of my favourite parts of the island, the small but beautifully-manicured hotel is one of those places that you can't help but peer in to as you walk past as it looks so enticing. The upper level that you can see from the image is accessible from the narrow road outside and with its potted flowers and bougainvillea draped over the gates it provides a wonderful splash of natural colour when set against the backdrop of Sant'Angelo and the sea behind it.
In our list of hotels in Ischia we divide up the sections into the various towns (or comune as they are known here) so that you can see hotels in Ischia Porto, Ischia Ponte, Forio, Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno, Sant'Angelo, Serrara Fontana and Barano at a glance. As Panza is only a "frazione" (regional village) of Forio it doesn't have its own section but perhaps that is doing it a slight dis-service as there are some great places to stay in what is a very picturesque corner of Ischia.
Just a few minutes walk from Torre Sant'Angelo is Sorgeto, a natural jacuzzi with hot springs and even if you don't fancy a trip down the stairs for a spot of relaxing or sunbathing, you can get some incredible views from the viewing platform above. To one side you see the village of Sant'Angelo with its giant rock sitting next to it like a huge panettone in the sea, while if you look down you see the bathers of Sorgeto lapping up the warm water and sun-rays.
Just next to Sorgeto is the Hotel Punta Chiarito with its panoramic swimming pool, while if you're in the mood for a spot of hiking you can follow the country paths as they lead you across to the bay of La Scannella. From the Hotel St. Leonard that sits on a cliff top, you can see a small and steep path that leads down to the bay below where there's another hotel called Club Scannella.
There are many different walking routes you can take around Panza, each with their own charm and difficulty level, so if you fancy a bit of exercise while enjoying today's beautiful sunshine, why not drop us a line and we can give you some advice about the best places for hiking.
Anyway, that's all from me for this morning, it seems a waste sitting here indoors when it's such a nice day outside so I'm going to go and do some exploring on the island and report back tomorrow with some more from Ischia.
A domani!
