ISCHIA ON SUNDAY - THE WEEKLY ISCHIA BLOG: SUNDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2014
Welcome to our weekly Ischia blog, Ischia on Sunday. Here you can see the entry for Sunday 14th December 2014.
Ciao Ischia!
A very good evening to Ischiaphiles wherever you may be as we draw ever closer to Christmas down in the southern half of Italy.
It's a fairly mild, windless evening with temperatures fairly high for the time of year. Today's afternoon temperature was 16° Celcius (61° Fahrenheit) and it's not due to go below 15°C (59°F) for the rest of the evening. In fact as we look ahead to the week to come the temperatures are getting up to the giddy heights of 19°C (66°F) so could we be in line for Christmas on the beach?
Probably not, no but we can all dream. The C word is a subject that you just can't avoid at this time of year, particularly in Ischia where there must be some kind of electrical power surge going on considering the amount of decorative lights on the houses, shops and restaurants around the island. There are some magnificent displays around and I was particularly impressed by the effort of Hotel Gran Paradiso in Casamicciola who seem to have popped over to Las Vegas for their lights. Each of the main towns has its own Christmas illuminations with all sorts of trees and laser displays beaming off walls making it feel very festive despite the warmish weather. As you can see, we've paid homage to the island's Christmas lights with this week's photo, one of the many displays that you can see around Ischia Porto at the moment, this particular one being down at the corner of the Riva Destra. Given the amount of excellent photographic material on offer to us at the moment we're going to do one of those 12 days of Christmas countdown things on our Facebook and other social networking pages, starting from today and finishing on the 25th. I've no idea when the "Twelve days of Christmas" period is due to start and finish but Christmas Day seems as good a time as any for the climax, what do you think?
Work continues apace on the website as we gradually expand with new features and more in-depth information on each page. It's a long process as there are so many areas to cover but we're getting there. Right now we're adding more restaurants as you can see for example on our "Restaurants in Ischia Porto" page, we've updated the "Ischia Nightlife" section with lots more bars, pubs, nightclubs and discos to choose from. We're adding information about the towns and villages on the island including bus and private transport directions and we'll soon have a new "Shopping in Ischia" section to show you as we know that's something that a lot of you want to see. On that note, any suggestions about what you'd like to see in the shopping section will be appreciated so let us know and we'll see if we can make it as useful as possible. As mentioned on last week's blog, we want to make the site as interactive as possible and really appreciate your views on every aspect of the island and the website itself. In our new "Snack Bars, Gelaterias & Cafes" section we've listed among the attributes of each bar whether it has WiFi or not. At this stage we haven't had time to visit every bar so we're relying partly on your feedback on this as well as on our "Friendliness Factor" rating as we want to guide visitors towards the most deserving establishments that make you feel welcome and at ease when you first enter.
We launched the new Ischia Review Forum last week and look forward to receiving your views on there, while the "This Week's Poll" feature continues this week where we're now asking you "Which is the best thermal park in Ischia?", a subject which usually divides opinion and something I'm looking forward to seeing the results of. We'll always leave the previous week's poll running in the appropriate places so you'll still be able to vote on last week's poll - the best beach in Ischia, by visiting the beaches in Ischia page. We haven't had enough votes on that to come up with a meaningful result yet so please let us know!
Ok so that's all for this week on the first (or is the 12th and we count down instead of up?) day of Christmas, keep your e-mails coming in and don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions about Ischia. Back with more next next Sunday.
A presto
