ISCHIA ON SUNDAY - THE WEEKLY ISCHIA BLOG: SUNDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2014
Welcome to our weekly Ischia blog, Ischia on Sunday. Here you can see the entry for Sunday 26th October 2014.
Good Evening Ischia!
The sun is setting over Chiaia Beach as another week on Ischia comes to a prematurely dark end. With the clocks going back an hour this morning, things are feeling a lot more autumnal than they previously were and this feeling is only emphasized by the sharp drop in temperatures.
This time last week we were up around 28° Celcius (82° Fahrenheit) but right now things are feeling a little bit chilly at about 16°C (60°F). We're still enjoying some lovely warm afternoons but the little darts around on the scooter are now accompanied by an extra layer or two.
With the change in weather, the majority of hotels on the island have now closed their doors for the winter, mostly to re-open sometime just before Easter. There are however still a good number to choose from for the coming months and still more over the Christmas and New Year period. As mentioned on previous blogs, this is the time of year when most people in Ischia start to turn their attention towards their holidays and we at Ischia Review are no different.
Having said all that, we're still here and there will always be somebody available to help if you have any questions about the island or if you need some advice to plan your next holiday here. We also work hard every day on making improvements to the website and to find the very best aspects of Ischia to share with you, whether that's in terms of accommodation or things to see and do, it's a constant process of evolution. We get lots of great feedback from people who've recently visited the island and we use that when making recommendations of our own. For that reason, we really appreciate any reviews of restaurants, hotels, apartments, villas or general activities that you can offer us so if you've got something to say about Ischia, please drop us a line at [email protected].
This week's photo was taken this afternoon in Casamicciola, a beautiful, bright green, vintage Fiat 500, a car that so characterizes Ischia and Italy in general. With no motorways or even dual carriageways on the island there's really no need for anything big and powerful which is why cars such as these are so popular. With many people living on the various mountain slopes along very tight, twisty lanes, it's essential to have a vehicle that's as nimble as possible, with Smart cars, apes (little farm vehicles) and scooters always strongly in evidence. Actually I think that's one of the reasons why Ischia is so special, there's no sense of "image is everything" here, it's all about the warmth of the people and the natural gifts that the island possesses. Long may it stay this way!
Ok that's all from me for this week, a "blogino" you might say, but I'll be back with another update this time next week.
A presto
