ISCHIA ON SUNDAY - THE WEEKLY ISCHIA BLOG: SUNDAY 4TH MAY 2014
Welcome to our weekly Ischia blog, Ischia on Sunday. Here you can see the entry for Sunday 4th May 2014
Good Morning Ischia!
It's a gorgeous start to the day in Ischia with everything you would want from spring. It's sunny and warm with just a few puffy white clouds slowly meandering their way to their next destination and the garden is alive with the tuneful sound of birdsong, the birds daringly making their presence known to the team of 11 cats that call our garden home. Perhaps most pleasing is the reappearance of the island of Ventotene on the horizon after its brief disappearance last week which I can now confirm was just a cloud related issue.
Today's photo comes from Maronti Beach in Barano and was taken yesterday morning. Now I know I've probably lyrically waxed about Maronti many times before but I have to say that yesterday it was the most beautiful I've ever seen it. We had a lot of rain and dark clouds around yesterday but just at the precise moment when I was passing by there was a sudden opening in the clouds which allowed a huge ray of sunshine to cast its spell on the beach and the water closest to the beach. I don't think I've ever seen so many shades of blue water anywhere in the world than there were at that particular moment and as the waves calmly rolled towards the shore, the colours shimmered and glistened under the sunlight creating a natural kaleidoscope that was truly mesmerising. I'm not sure if the photo really does it justice so you'll all have to come to Ischia and have a look for yourselves!
We've got quite a busy day of Ischia Reviewing ahead (from the verb "to Ischia Review" or "ischiarevieware" in Italian), this morning we're going to join in a guided tour of the towers of Forio. Back in the middle ages the island was a magnet for raiding turkish pirates and saracens (it's not like that any more trust me!) who saw Ischia as ripe for a bit of rape and pillage which led to the islanders constructing a series of defensive towers from which they could spot the marauders before arriving and presumably shoot them with some kind of bow and arrow. The purpose of this tour is so that I can give you better information than "presumably shoot them with some kind of bow and arrow", so I will report back with my improved knowledge on that in due course.
After the tower tour we're then going over to Panza for a little expedition along the Monte di Panza walk. A few weeks ago we reported on the Sentiero Baia Pelara walk and today we'll be taking photos of its near neighbour. Monte di Panza covers more or less the same area but from an elevated position as opposed to Baia Pelara which leads you right to its rocky shore. This is all part of our mission to add information, photos and directions to all of the best walking routes in Ischia but as you can see from the link we've already got a good few to choose from.
Ok that's all from me for today, I'll be back with more next weekend. Whether you're reading this on the website or on the facebook page we'd love to hear from you with any questions you may have about Ischia or any photos of the island that you'd like to share with us which you can simply add to the facebook page and leave your comments beside, we love that!
Have a great Sunday wherever you are.
A presto!
