ISOLA VERDE 100 KILOMETRE BIKE RACE
Ischia's latest involvement in the world of cycle racing comes in the form of a new event that will be staged for the first time this year. The Isola Verde (Green Island) one hundred kilometre cycling race will take place on a specially-designed road circuit of approximately 9km that will see competitors racing over just a touch more than 11 laps.
The course will wind its way across the island's hilliest sections and take in Castello Aragonese, Ischia Ponte, Barano, Buonopane, Fontana, Serrara, Panza, Citara, Forio, Lacco Ameno and Ischia Porto. The highest peak will be reached at Fontana where the riders will have climbed to a height of 460 metres above sea-level.
In 2013 Ischia was home to stage two of the giant Giro d'Italia race that covers the whole of Italy. The event was a huge success and the Isola Verde 100km aims to continue this wonderful tradition of cycling in Ischia.
