LA GROTTA DA FIORE
LA GROTTA DA FIORE
La Grotta da Fiore stands in one of the most dramatic locations on the whole island, right at the top of Mount Epomeo, Ischia's highest point at 788 metres. This is a popular spot with hikers who've just reached the summit at the mountain and are looking for a little rest & repose as well as a bite to eat.
There are two dining areas, one of these indoors which has a wonderful panoramic window showing the views down to Forio and the sea beyond. You can also walk through this area to reach another viewing area to enjoy the magnificent views from a slightly different angle. At the front of the restaurant is another large, terrace area with benches, tables and parasols where hikers can swap stories about the walk they've just completed.
On the menu you can choose lighter meals such as bruschetta, French fries and salads as well as larger dishes such as pasta or rabbit. To top it all off there's a great range of home made desserts, setting you up nicely for the descent.
To reach the restaurant you're going to have to walk a bit. You can either start your ascent from the village of Fontana which can take up to two hours depending in your speed and fitness, or alternatively start the hike from the point where the mountain road gets too narrow for cars and you can park.
The restaurant is open from February to November, from 9am to 6pm while during July and August you can also arrange an evening meal by making a reservation with the restaurant.
