GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! FRIDAY 6TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Friday 6th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
We wake this morning to a slightly changed scene with lightly cloudy skies replacing yesterday's bright blue ones but nevertheless it remains pleasant outside. Whenever I poke my head outside for a quick walk around the garden to appraise the weather conditions there's always something interesting going on, whether it's something new growing in the garden or an intriguing sound or sight in the distance. This morning is no exception, the first thing I noticed was the lemon tree with its fruit ripening and becoming yellower by the day.
Further down in the bay of Citara I can hear the sound of a weary ape truck chugging its way up a hill, no doubt destined to perform its duty by delivering some fruit and vegetables somewhere. The rhythmic engine noise of the truck is then complemented by the ringing of church bells telling us that another new hour has begun.
The weather forecast for today is for a mixture of cloud with some sunny spells and temperatures between 17° celcius (62° fahrenheit) and 12°C (53°F) which is ever so slightly up on yesterday. The rest of the weekend looks to be just as good and perhaps even better with lots of sunshine predicted for Saturday and Sunday.
Today's photo is of Negombo Thermal Gardens in Lacco Ameno, one of the foremost thermal parks & gardens in Ischia. Negombo sits in the gorgeous San Montano bay and boasts 12 separate swimming pools, each with its own temperature ranging from 24° to 36° celcius. There are also wellness treatments and massage on offer as well as the intriguingly named Japanese Labrynth Bath where you walk through really hot water followed by really cold water which is great for blood circulation. Negombo is also home to one of the best restaurants in Ischia, Trattoria Casa Colonica which you can visit even if you don't want to visit the thermal park itself.
Incidentally, there will also be church bells making their musical chimes in honour of San Nicola, for today is the day the saint's name is celebrated in Italy. Every 6th December a pilgrimage is made to the church of San Nicola high up near the top of Mount Epomeo where people gather for mass and mark the occasion with picnics or impromptu barbecues. The tiny church can be found in Serrara Fontana where there's a well-marked path that leads to the top. For anybody who would like to join in with the celebrations please let us know and we will provide you with detailed instructions and directions.
Ok that's all for today, have a great day and I'll be back tomorrow morning as the weekend gets underway.
A presto!
