GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! MONDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Monday 2nd December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
The new week has begun with a huge downpour that started last night, carried on all through the early hours of this morning and is continuing right now. The rain and the heavy winds that are accompanying it look set to stay for the rest of the day and into this evening but thankfully should give way to some much brighter stuff tomorrow with the outlook for the rest of the week really quite positive. Temperatures today should peak at around 15° celcius (59° fahrenheit) and not dip below 11°C (53°F), slightly up on yesterday but still some way short of sunbathing weather!
Today's photo has been chosen as it shows the most appropriate place on the island given today's overhead conditions. Driving through the winding hilly main road through the Serrara Fontana area you will never fail to be struck by the architectural oddity of Ristorante L'Arca. Made mostly of the tufa-stone rock that can be seen in many places across Ischia, the restaurant building hangs in a seemingly precarious position on a ledge and looks as if it should give way at any moment. Of course it doesn't, and the structure is as safe and sound as any other, a real credit to the people who had the vision to create such a unique building.
The position of the restaurant on a small promontory high up in the mountain area of Serrara Fontana means it gives you one of the most spectacular views that can be seen on the whole island. The tufa-stone rock keeps the building nice and cool throughout the summer and as you walk to the front window you are met with an incredible panoramic vista across the island and to the sea beyond.
Ristorante L'Arca is similar to other restaurants around Serrara Fontana in so much as it specialises the most famous dish of Ischia, Coniglio all'Ischitana (Ischian Rabbit), a delicious stew/casserole made with locally grown herbs, spices and vegetables (another for your Ischia to-do-list). The restaurants in Serrara Fontana offer something different to those down in the main town areas or around the beaches and are a welcome diversion that should be included in any trip to Ischia. They almost all offer fantastic views and a slightly cooler environment if you're looking for a break from the hot summer sun down below.
Sadly, hot summer sun is not something we have to worry about today and if this rain carries on for much longer we might all find ourselves making a dash for Serrara Fontana to take refuge in Ristorante L'Arca, otherwise known as The Ark!
Ok that's all from me today, have a great start to the week and make sure you pop back here tomorrow morning to see our latest offerings.
Ciao!
