GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! MONDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Monday 9th December 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
We open the windows to fairly pleasant conditions, there are a few birds twittering away in the trees, a car-horn alerting a would be road-crosser in the distance and the general sounds of the island waking up to the new week all around us. There's some dampness on the ground after last night's showers while up above there's a mixture of blue skies and some scattered clouds. If the weathermen have got their sums right today then it should feel quite warm with a maximum of 17° celcius (62° fahrenheit) and a minimum of 13°C (55°F) we shall see!
Today's photo is from the wonderful "Bosco Incantato" (Enchanted Forest) in Ischia Porto which opened last night and will be around until the middle of January. Walking down from the main square, Piazza degli Eroi, towards Corso Vittoria Colonna, you will now see something rather unusual going on. To your left you'll see some Christmas market stalls with people selling seasonal food, toys and gifts, and then to your right your senses will be alerted by the sounds of the forest.
As you cross the road the sounds become louder and you can detect exotic birds, frogs and nocturnal animals joining forces for a natural chorus of forest sounds. You can't help but be enticed into this incredible world of sound and vision with a magical display of lighting effects being the highlight. There are brightly coloured butterflies, flamingoes and even unicorns creating a dazzling display of Christmas lights in a beautiful setting which once you've entered makes it difficult to remember you're in the real world which was just a few steps away.
Last night the island's capital was full of people who'd come out to witness the spectacle of both the Bosco Incantato and the ice-skating rink, with people dressing up smartly to celebrate the occasion. Shops, bars and restaurants were full and it was almost as if we were in the height of the summer season again. Just as the excitement levels were rising however, we were all engulfed by an extremely unwelcome downpour which lasted for a couple of hours. A few hardy souls (such as myself!), tried to patiently wait for the rain to stop but by the time it did, most people had gone home, probably wisely waiting to return on another evening when there wasn't the problem of the rain.
So once again we'll be off to Ischia Porto again tonight, weather permitting, to check-out the skating-rink and the enchanted forest with lots more photos to follow. Entrance to the forest is completely free of charge by the way so make sure you don't miss it if you happen to be in Ischa over the Christmas and New Year period. As soon as I have details of the ice-skating prices I'll publish them here as well.
Ok that's all for today, I hope you have an enchanting Monday morning and I'll be back with more tomorrow. Just drop us a line if you have any questions about the Christmas festivities or Ischia in general and we'll be happy to help.
A domani!
