GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! WEDNESDAY 16TH OCTOBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Wednesday 16th October 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
There are a few drops of rain around this morning but things should be brightening up a bit this afternoon with temperatures getting up to about 24 celcius/76 fahrenheit.
Today's photo is of an ape truck in Ischia Ponte which has been converted into a stall from which to sell local produce such as Limoncello. For the uninitiated, Limoncello is a delicious liqueur made from lemons, of which there are many on the island. The alcoholic tipple is well-known in Southern Italy and the people of Ischia are some of the finest exponents of the art of creating it.
Limoncello is created from lemon peel, alcohol, sugar and water and can be a great after-dinner drink to help your meal go down well. However, there are many other similar types of liqueur that are made from different fruits and vegetables in Ischia. One of the most popular alternatives is Rucolino which is made from rocket leaves while you can also find fragolino (strawberries), meloncino (melons) and nocino (nuts).
These liqueurs are made in many homes across Ischia but also bottled and sold by shops and stalls. It is easy to try the different types of liqueur as there are several vendors offering you free samples as you walk along in places like Via Roma in Ischia Porto, Ischia Ponte which is in today's photo, Forio, Lacco Ameno, Sant'Angelo and Casamicciola.
So if you're looking to try something new today then maybe a free sample of a liqueur could be the answer and you might decide to take some home with you so that you can feel like you're in Ischia even when you're home.
Whatever you do today, have fun and don't drink too much!
