GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! WEDNESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Wednesday 6th November 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
And it is with great pleasure that I can announce it's a another beautiful, sunny morning with barely a cloud to be seen. The outlook for the rest of the week is for more of the same so if you were considering a spontaneous trip to Ischia, this would be the time to do it. Temperatures today should be around 19° celcius (67° fahrenheit) this afternoon and dropping by just a couple of degrees this evening to 17°C (63°F).
Today's photo is of La Chiesa di San Pietro (the church of St. Peter) in Ischia Porto. The 18th century church stands on Corso Vittoria Colonna, the main thoroughfare in the island's capital town. The area from Via Roma at the bottom of the hill which leads into Corso Vittoria Colonna towards the top is one of the busiest streets in Ischia as it's home to dozens of shops, bars, restaurants and hotels.
Behind La Chiesa di San Pietro is "La Spiaggia di San Pietro" (St. Peter's Beach), a wide expanse of sand with some fantastic views out to sea. A little further up from the beach is a promenade where you can look back down on to the beach or continue along the road towards Ischia Ponte and Castello Aragonese.
Arguably the most important feature of Ischia Porto is its wide port area which welcomes most visitors to the island either by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples, Pozzuoli, Procida, Capri and in some cases Sorrento. The area around the port is usually a hive of activity with taxis waiting to pick up new arrivals and those same visitors deciding the best way to get to their hotels, be it by taxi, bus or even on foot if they are at one of the hotels close by.
As you stand in the port and look out to sea you have a left and a right bank, the left serves the ferries while the area to the right is where the hydrofoils arrive. This part of the port, known as "La Riva Destra" (The Right Bank) and is one of the most popular destinations for nightlife on the island as virtually every building is either a restaurant or bar, making it a magnet for islanders and visitors alike who might fancy combining a bite to eat with an evening stroll or a spot of people-watching.
We've got loads more information on Ischia Porto here but if you still can't find what you're looking for then please drop us a line as we love to help travellers find out more about the island.
Ok that's all from me today, I'll be back with some more tomorrow. If you're in Ischia have a great day and enjoy the sunshine, and if you're not already here then what are you waiting for?
A presto!
