When arriving for the first time at the Hotel Santa Maria it's best to take a taxi as no buses run directly in front of it. The closest port is Forio and from there it takes around 10 minutes in a taxi. If driving yourself from either Casamicciola or Ischia Porto, follow the main road around the island, heading west towards Forio and passing above Lacco Ameno. After passing the Villa Arbusto Museum you'll reach a T-junction with the Albergo Terme San Lorenzo directly ahead of you. Turn left here and follow the road as it eventually bends right and up a steep hill. At the top of this hill turn right, following the signs for La Mortella Gardens which you then need to continue past. Shortly after the gardens there's a left hand turn that descends in a spiral around a church before reaching San Francesco Beach. Go straight on, passing the various restaurants at which point the road turns inland. The entrance to the Hotel Santa Maria is then just on your right.
