15th june 2013: cooking with the fumaroles of sant'angelo
Le Fumarole beach in Sant'Angelo is famous for its hot sand created by the jets of steam that rise up from the beach throughout the course of the day. Located on a volcanic basin, the sand is extremely hot and dry and many diseases can be treated thanks to the thermal vapour that gives the sand the same chemical properties of the basin below.
Visitors to the beach are also able to dig sand baths in areas of the beach that are heated to a prescribed temperature, lay in the baths whilst covered in sand, and be naturally treated for a number of different ailments such as; rheumatism, sciatica, arthrophaties or the after-effects of fractures.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the beach is that at its hottest point, where temperatures reach 100 - 150 degrees celcius, the locals use the beach to cook chicken, fish, potatoes or even eggs by placing them in containers to bake underneath the sand. Mussels for example are ready in around 20 minutes, whilst chickens take between an hour and an hour and a half and the results are fabulous. It is not uncommon to see picnics on a summer night where locals take rugs to sit on the warm sand and have a picnic under the stars.

23rd may 2013: classic ischia movie lights up cannes film festival
Ischia has a rich tradition in film and the announcement that one of the stars who performed here would be honoured at this year's Cannes Film Festival came as no surprise.
In 1960, a struggling French actor by the name of Alain Delon played the lead role in the movie "Plein Soleil" (named "Purple Noon" in English-speaking countries), and his performance marked the critical turning-point in what was to become a glittering career.
The majority of the movie was filmed in Ischia and provides a fascinating glimpse into the island as it embarked on life as a chic tourist destination. Purple Moon was just one of dozens of movies filmed in Ischia but is the lesser-known fore-runner to the re-make called "The Talented Mr Ripley" starring Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow which was also partially filmed in Ischia.

6th may 2013: ischia turns pink for giro d'italia
Ischia was a sea of pink yesterday as the Giro D’Italia passed through the Island for the first time since 1959. Under clear blue skies and soaring temperatures, the 23 teams comprising the cream of world cycling battled the 17km circuit for the team time trial, the second stage of this year’s Giro.
The much anticipated event was organized meticulously and with the world watching, Ischia put on the best possible show to millions of people around the world.
Nothing quite compares to being there amongst the action though and the huge crowds that lined the roads were treated to a thrilling few hours of top-class cycling. The event was won by Team Sky who had superstar Sir Bradley Wiggins in their ranks to help them set a scorching pace that their rivals were simply unable to match.
From the supporters who wore pink on the day, to the flowers that had been grown especially so that they would be in full bloom at just the right time, the island became an homage to the Maglia Rosa (Pink Jersey), famously worn by the lead rider in the race.
The event that winds its way around Italy over a three week period now moves on to the Amalfi coast but after the spectacular success of yesterday’s stage in Ischia, the Giro is sure to be returning to these shores again soon. This year's Giro d'Italia cycle race will be passing through Ischia for the first time since 1959. The Italian equivalent of the Tour de France winds its way around the whole country, and this year stage number two will take place in Ischia on 5th May.

5th may 2013: team sky storm to giro team time trial
Team Sky stormed to victory in today's team time trial stage of the Giro d'Italia in Ischia.
Led by British rider Sir Bradley Wiggins, Sky set a blistering pace of 22 minutes and 5 seconds that none of the other teams could match across the 17km route.
With temperatures soaring in Ischia, many riders including some from Sky, felt the pace early on and had to drop out of the race, leaving their team-mates to get the job done on the tricky, twisty circuit.
The win means Wiggins gained an advantage of 14 seconds over two of his main rivals, last year's Giro victor, Ryder Hesjedal, and home favourite Francesco Nibali.
Sicilian rider Salvatore Puccio now takes over the leader's Maglia Rosa (Pink Jersey) as the race moves on to stage 3, a 222km ride along the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento to Marina di Ascea.

2nd may 2013: mark cavendish to lead quickstep at giro d'italia
With the rivalry between Sir Bradley Wiggins and his Team Sky team-mate Chris Froome dominating the back pages over the last few days, British superstar Mark Cavendish has almost gone unnoticed in the build-up to this year's Giro D'Italia.
Omega Pharma Quick-Step yesterday confirmed that "Cav" will be their lead-rider at this year's Giro that begins in Naples on Saturday before arriving in Ischia for stage two on Sunday.

1st may 2013: wiggins looking for giro and tour de france double
Sir Bradley Wiggins will be looking to make history when this year's Giro d'Italia gets underway in Naples on Saturday.
Last year's Tour De France winner is looking to be the first man since Italian Marco Pantani in 1998 to win both the Giro and the Tour in the same 12 months.
Wiggins task will not be easy, in last year's event he finished in a lowly 40th place, but perhaps the greatest problem exists within his own team. Team Sky colleague Chris Froome will have noted Wiggins' comments about wanting to be the team's lead rider at this year's tour, contrary to an agreement that was made after Froome supported Wiggins to win in France last year.
Whatever happens, the race promises to be one of the most keenly contested for years with a number of leading riders showing great form in the warm-up events.

11TH APRIL 2013: anne frank exhibition comes to ischia
The name of Anne Frank is known to millions. The brave young Dutch girl evaded capture from the Nazis for more than two years during their occupation of The Netherlands in World War Two, and her harrowing story has become a symbol for peace and hope the world over.
Holed-up in her tiny room in war-torn Amsterdam, the German-born Jewish girl kept an incredible diary of her daily struggles against insurmountable odds. Shorly after the war, Frank's diaries were found and subsequently published, representing one of the most evocative and terrifying accounts of the holocaust.
The defiance and optimism that is portrayed in the diary has offered hope and inspiration to the generations that have followed and it is for this reason that the Anne Frank exhibition continues its world-tour.
Ischia's Marina 10 Boutique and Design Hotel will be the next port of call for the roadshow when it begins on 19th April. The event will last for almost 6 weeks, ending on the 19th May.
The Marina 10 is situated in Casamicciola and for more details you can access the English-version of the hotel's website via the button below.
