The beautiful Chiesa di San Giorgio has its home in the little village of Testaccio, very close to Maronti Beach in Barano. The yellow and white striped façade can be seen for miles around, making this one of the most picturesque locations on the island. The church actually started life in 1300 AD as a chapel and later became a church. It is one of three churches in the hamlet of Testaccio, the other two being Chiesa della Madonna Assunta and Chiesa Santa Maria di Costantinopoli.
To reach the Chiesa di San Giorgio you need to at first follow the signs to Maronti Beach. From Ischia Porto take the SS270 heading west towards Barano. Before reaching the village of Barano you will see a sharp left hand turn for Maronti Beach. Take this road and follow it as it winds its way down towards Testaccio. You'll know you're in the village when you see a UPIM supermarket on your left. From this point it's best to carry on on-foot. Walk towards the village centre where the road bends right. At this point you will see a right hand turning which quickly forks in two different directions. Take the right hand fork and you will reach the church after a hundred yards or so.
