GOOD MORNING ISCHIA! MONDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2013
Welcome to our Ischia blog, Good Morning Ischia! Here you can see the entry for Monday 7th October 2013.
Good morning Ischia!
There's still a bit of rain and cloud around this morning after last night's downpour but the outlook for the afternoon and the next few day is much better with temperatures due to reach around 25 celcius/77 fahrenheit today.
As it's breakfast (Prima Colazione) time right now it's a good time to talk about what people eat here first thing in the morning. Well obviously everybody has their own personal preference but on the whole, breakfast tends to consist of a variety of sweet foods and almost without exception, coffee! Many people like to start the day with some bread or a croissant (cornetto in Italian), and maybe add a little jam (marmellata). There are some delicious home-made jams on offer in many of the hotels due to the amount of fruit that is produced on the island including lemons, oranges, figs and apricots. If you're feeling particularly hungry or decadent, you can always treat yourself to a "Graffa" which is a sugared doughnut, or one of the many types of pastry that are on offer at the cafes such as the local favourite the "Sfogliatella", although you might need to plan a very light lunch in the case of the latter!
The coffee that most people drink in the morning in Ischia is a small cup of espresso while there are some interesting variations such as an "Americanino" which is like a small cappuccino with less froth and a more intense coffee flavour, or there are some cafes such as Bar Cocò next to Castello Aragonese which serves a "Cafe Leccese" which is an espresso with almond milk and an ice-cube. For those people who prefer a slightly larger cup of coffee it's best to ask for an "Americano" which is a pot of filtered coffee.
The biggest cafe on the island is undoubtedly Bar Calise in Ischia Porto which is a favourite among islanders while there are no shortage of excellent cafes all across the island, forming a very important function in the daily of the Ischitan community.
Anyway, however you choose to start your day in Ischia, have a great time, the sun is coming!
