ISCHIA ON SUNDAY - THE WEEKLY ISCHIA BLOG: SUNDAY 23RD NOVEMBER 2014
Welcome to our weekly Ischia blog, Ischia on Sunday. Here you can see the entry for Sunday 23rd November 2014.
Ciao Ischia!
Once again this week’s blog comes from on the road or “on the rail” to be more precise as our annual holiday continues apace, some way north of Ischia. In fact there are some small similarities between the fast moving landscape outside and that of Ischia with hundreds of tall, green pine trees (this is the only clue I’m giving...) slightly resembling those that can be found back home in Ischia, particularly in Casamicciola. The similarities pretty much end there though as the grey northern skies and below freezing temperatures are in stark contrast to those that can be found in the Gulf of Naples right now.
The weather outlook for the coming week shows highs of around 18° Celcius (64° Fahrenheit), dropping down to a minimum of 10°C (50°F), mostly sunny but with a few drops of rain expected on Thursday and Friday.
Being away from Ischia it’s a little bit difficult to describe what’s going on and the general atmosphere etc so I’ll keep things fairly brief for now. For this week’s photo I’ve chosen one of the iconic sights of Ischia, the fantastically unique micro-taxis which really symbolize the island. These converted “Ape” (means “Bee” in English) agricultural vehicles come in all sorts of combinations of bright and sometimes whacky colour schemes. Some of the drivers choose to decorate them with flowers, ribbons, tassles and other adornments that make each one easily distinguishable. With their tiny engines they’re never the quickest way to get around but during the spring and summer they become the taxi of choice as they are without doubt the most fun way to get to your hotel or apartment on arrival at the port, the open sides allowing you to really feel the warm breezes as your mini chariot pop pops its way around the undulating island roads.
The micro-taxis are just one of many ways of getting around in Ischia with buses, water taxis, rental cars, scooters and bicycles all available. For more information about transport on the island or just as importantly, how to get to Ischia, have a good look through our travel guide or alternatively just drop us a line if you’d like some personalised help and we’ll be happy to assist.
Ok so that’s all from me for this week, Ill be back with more next Sunday from another mystery destination...
A presto
