"Buona Domenica" everyone and I indeed hope you're all having a very good Sunday. We've had some blustery conditions over the last 24 hours with the sea whipped up into a frenzy of white horses at times. Looking outside now though things look much more settled and tomorrow should be better still. The wind has brought a slight chill to the air but it's still a very agreeable 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit). Looking ahead, the forecasts are showing yet another week of sunshine and whilst we're not complaining too loudly, it does seem an awful long time since we had any rain and it looks like I'll have to get out on the terrace with the watering-can later as the basil leaves are starting to wilt alarmingly. Today's lovely photo comes from Chiaia di Rose Beach in Sant'Angelo. Back soon. Ciao :-)

Afternoon folks! It's a gorgeous, sunny Sunday in Ischia. Looking out to sea right now the sun is glistening on the water as a rather impressive-looking yacht makes its way across Citara Bay in Forio. This peaceful scene is broken occasionally by distant cheers from a bar as the locals explode with joy at watching Napoli's football team demolish Torino with 3 big cheers in the last 5 minutes meaning an unusual goal rush in that match. Whenever Napoli play you'll find the streets that bit quieter then when the match finishes you'll find people making their way into the town centres for an afternoon passeggiata followed by some kind of ice-cream, cake or coffee (I might join them actually!). As for the weather, things are looking good for the next 7 days with no rain forecast. Ciao :-)
Evening all! It's a windy Sunday evening in Ischia as the weekend starts to draw to a close. The round the island bike race took centre stage this morning and since then things have gradually got back to normal. Sundays are generally the days when you see more people around compared to the rest of the week but it was still very peaceful this lunch time and in many ways this is the nicest time of the year to be here. Looking ahead at the rest of the week, today's heavy winds will gradually diminish as we get into tomorrow but the sea will remain a little bit rough until Tuesday. At the moment the weather forecast for the next 7 days is looking very healthy indeed with no rain predicted while Friday should see the 25°C (77°F) barrier broken for the first time this year. Back soon. Ciao :-)
Morning folks! People around the world will no doubt be enjoying an extended lie-in this morning as it's Labour Day, May Day or La Festa del Lavoro in Italy. This means another busy period in Ischia, the third "Ponte" Bridge weekend in succession where visitors come to the island for an extended break. This is a great time to visit, the spring flowers are in bloom and the sun is starting to feel warmer each day. Looking at the weather forecasts, we're in for yet another sunny week, in fact it's rained so little in the past two months that we must be due a huge downpour at some point but no rain is expected now until Sunday. Today's photo comes from Maronti Beach, the largest on the island and almost a town in itself with dozens of bars, restaurants and hotels. Back soon. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone! It's a bright, sunny Sunday here in Ischia on what's proven to be another busy weekend. Last week we had Easter and there's another national holiday in Italy tomorrow (Festa della Liberazione/Liberation Day), which means many people have chosen to come over for a long weekend, starting on Friday and ending tomorrow night. Ischia Porto was full of people last night and there was a real buzz around the town. The weather has been a bit strange of late, almost as if we've gone back in to winter temporarily with temperatures dropping and causing a duvet re-think/headache by yours truly but it's much warmer today and we're set for a week of (mainly) sunshine with Thursday the only day where rain is forecast. Back with more soon. Ciao :-)
Hello all! The Easter weekend continues in Ischia with a beautiful spring afternoon. It's been busier than usual on the island due to all the visitors coming over for the bank holiday weekend (by the way these weekends are known as "Ponti" in Italy - Bridge Weekends) and it's been nice to see the place coming alive again. Many of those visitors will be making their way back to the mainland again over the course of this afternoon and evening, meaning we'll return to our relatively sleepy atmosphere for the rest of the week. I say "relatively" in comparison to other notable places in the region such as Capri, Sorrento or Positano for example which are all much much busier than Ischia, making this a great place to visit if you're looking to avoid huge crowds of people with selfie-sticks! Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. The Easter weekend is upon us and Ischia is about to wake up after its rather long hibernation. Most hotels, thermal parks and restaurants are either now open or about to open over the next few days and the busy weekend kicks off with tonight's Passion of Christ parades in Forio and Lacco Ameno. The one in Forio for example starts at 8 tonight and crowds will line the streets of the town centre to watch the open-air show unfold, culminating in its moving climax next to Chiesa del Soccorso which becomes Golgotha for one night only. Aside from that, it won't be long until the first rental boats are on the water while the day trip excursions to Capri, Positano & Amalfi are already up and running. The weather is looking good to so Buona Pasqua a tutti! Ciao :-)
Evening all! It's a beautiful day in Ischia and you have to say, one of the best times of the year to visit the island. Things are still fairly quiet as there are still a few places that won't open until next week but there's been a definite change over the past seven days with a lot more people around, boats on the water and the sun warming our backs. Today is a special day in the calendar, Palm Sunday and for that reason you may have seen people walking around carrying olive branches. Those branches are taken to the local church where they are exchanged for a blessing. On the weather front, we're set for a wonderful week ahead with temperatures hovering between 17°-20° Celsius (63°-68° Fahrenheit). Today's photo was taken an hour ago at Le Fumarole Beach in Sant'Angelo. Back soon. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks and buona domenica a tutti! Ok so perhaps yesterday's story was a bit far-fetched and you could even go so far as to call it a downright lie but hey, needs must on April 1st. So back in the real world, we've got a bit of an untidy day with plenty of clouds around and rain forecast for later. The bad weather which is covering most of Italy today isn't expected to stick around too long and things should start to clear up a bit towards the beginning of the new week. Ischia continues its slow re-birth after the winter hibernation and with each passing day there are more hotels and restaurants opening. By the time Easter arrives in a couple of week's time we'll all be fully up and running with all the thermal parks also opening around that time. Back with more soon. Ciao :-)
Good morning everyone! Controversy reigns this morning in Ischia with news filtering through about the Pilastri Aqueduct located between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Rumours have surfaced of a scheme to use the aqueduct as a means of transport from the hills overlooking the port area down to the two town centres. Ischia Review understands that the plans involve small boats that will float along the top of the aqueduct as not just a means of transport but also a unique visitor attraction. Visitors will be able able to enter boats from different terminals in Fiaiano and Casamicciola, arriving at their destinations within a few minutes. The plans are being hailed as an environmental masterpiece and expected to be the first of similar schemes across Italy. More on this soon. Ciao ;-)
