Afternoon everyone. As expected there's been a bit of a change in the weather today. The wind that started to get up yesterday evening is still with us and now joined by rain showers. We've also seen a big drop in temperatures and right now at 4:30pm it's down to just 13° Celsius (55° Fahrenheit). Looking outside it's like the title of an E L James novel with varying shades of grey punctuated with a few foamy white flashes out on a rough-looking sea. That wind should die down as the evening progresses but the rain is due to intensify before things clear up tomorrow. I should mention that both tonight and tomorrow night at La Mortella Gardens in Forio there are indoor classical music concerts starting at 5pm. Apart from that I bid you all a Buona Serata until tomorrow. Ciao :-)
My word is it Friday already, how did that happen? It's a slightly strange period on the island at the moment, with Easter coming so early it feels like we're already a few weeks into the traditional summer season but things don't really get off the ground until the middle of April usually, as evidenced by the main thermal parks such as Poseidon and Negombo which open on the 15th and 21st April respectively. Today's weather is mostly cloudy with the occasional flash of sunshine and the temperature right now at 4pm is 19° Celsius (66° Fahrenheit). There's a bit of a wind getting up now as well with the sea looking quite rough. Expect similar conditions until Sunday when it starts to brighten up again with a boost in temperatures about a week away. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all. As expected we've seen much more cloud today than on previous days and there's definitely a change coming for the next few days. This morning continued in the same vein as the earlier part of this week with plenty of sunshine early on before the clouds moved in. Right now at 3:15pm it's 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit) and that thick cloud means visibility is very low but the sea remains calm nevertheless. The cloud will now be with us until Sunday, bringing with it some showers tomorrow and on Saturday. We'll also see a fairly sharp drop in temperatures before they gradually start to rise again from the beginning of next week. Today's photo was taken this morning, a low hanging cloud hovering over Citara Beach in Forio . Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Hello everyone. Of all the lovely days we've had over the past week or so I'd say today takes the prize (there's no actual prize) for being the best of the lot and it's certainly the hottest of the year so far. When I was out and about on my scooter riding through Forio earlier the difference in the amount of people around was palpable. The change in clothing was also very noticeable with not a single winter coat in sight and the "minimalist look" (i.e. not wearing very much at all) very much "di moda". Outside right now at 4pm it's beautifully sunny with the sea looking a picture of calm and temperature-wise it's a wonderful 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit). The sun may disappear tomorrow before reappearing on Saturday so make the most of this afternoon if you're here now! Ciao :-)
Afternoon/evening folks. The weather remains metronomically brilliant as this fine, early spring spell continues. Having just done my little walk around the little terrace I'm happy to report that the sky is completely blue apart from a cloudy white stripe left by a distant aeroplane. You couldn't ask for the sea to be calmer (not sure who you would ask for this mind) with the only object visible in the great blue yonder a small fishing vessel merrily bobbing up and down. Right now at 5pm it's 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit) and we look set for at least one more day similar to this tomorrow. Thursday, Friday and a little bit of Saturday suggest rain but by next week temperatures should rise still further for a more prolonged period of sunshine. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. Wow, what a gorgeous day! After a fairly cloudy day yesterday it was a bit of a slow start this morning but the sun has been rising all day and there are hardly any clouds around. The sea is as flat as a pancake and glistening away with the sun belting down on it. Over the last few days the temperature at this time of day seems to have been stuck on 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) which is exactly what it is right now at 3pm. Conditions seem set fair until Thursday at which point we may see a few clouds followed by some rain over the weekend but as we go into the following week it looks like sunshine all the way. Today's photo comes from the path above Sant'Angelo that leads down to Le Fumarole Beach, a beautiful part of the island. A domani. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. We've reached the final part of the weekend with the sun a mere quarter of an hour from setting. Ahead of me I can see three yachts no doubt making the most of that last little bit of sunshine or perhaps waiting to enjoy the sunset. Behind the yachts the island of Ventotene looms large, seemingly getting closer with every passing day (actually I think I already have next year's April Fools' day post worked out!). It's been a mostly sunny day but with a fair amount of cloud, albeit once again hazy. The highest temperature we had this afternoon was 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) while right now at 7:15pm that's dropped a little to 20°C (68°F). Tomorrow should be very similar and of course I'll be back to update on that. So until then, "Buona serata a tutti". Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. Ok well perhaps yesterday's story about a bridge linking Ischia to Naples city centre may have been a little bit far-fetched or even worse, completely made up ;-) So back to the post April-fools reality and today has so far unravelled in a similar way to yesterday. We've once again had those kind of hazy clouds with a little bit of sunshine peeking through and the temperatures remain unusually high for this time of year. Right now at 3pm it's 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit) and we look set for a continued spell of these temperatures certainly for the rest of the weekend and for most of next week as well. With Easter having arrived very early this year we're still a couple of weeks away from the real start of the summer season but it's not far off now. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all. It's a hazy, cloudy day in Ischia today with a current temperature of 20° Celsius (68° Fahrenheit). However, the big news of the day is that plans for a bridge to link the island to Naples have finally been approved with construction work set to begin shortly. The news represents a huge breakthrough for tourism in Ischia with many visitors now able to plan their trips by car or train. The bridge will comfortably be the longest in the world when completed and will comprise one level with a dual carriageway road and another level with a railway line. Journey times will be slashed with the high-speed train estimated to take just 15 minutes from the centre of Naples. Talks are still taking place over a proposed junction at Procida. More on this tomorrow... Ciao :-)
