Evening folks. It's been a few days since my last update and in that time things have gone from a nice and sunny start to the week to a pretty miserable, wet and windy middle and end. Last night saw some particularly heavy downpours and strong winds, both of which have stuck around for most of today as well. The wind is starting to die down a bit but the rain hasn't stopped all day and is due to continue until tomorrow afternoon. We've also seen a significant drop in temperatures and having just taken an unpleasant step outside I can tell you that it's a mere 8° Celcius (46° Fahrenheit) right now at 7:15pm. The rain should stop in time for the weekend though. I'm off on a mini mystery tour for a couple of days but will be back with another update soon. A presto, ciao :-)
Morning everyone. It's been a few days since my last update and in that time we've had a mixed bag of weather. Over the last few days there's been a gradual build up of wind culminating in the storm which landed yesterday and which is still going strong today. The heavy winds have been scattering vegetation on the island while conditions at sea are looking hazardous with many ferry & hydrofoil services being cancelled as a result. It's turned a bit cold too and right now at 11am it's just 12° Celcius (54° Fahrenheit) although that should creep up to 16°C (61°F) later today. Looking ahead, the wind should die down by tonight but will be replaced by rain, at least for tomorrow and maybe in to Tuesday as well. Today's photo comes from a windy Sant'Angelo. Back soon, ciao :-)
Afternoon all. With winter rapidly approaching the nights are really drawing in early and it's already getting dark now. Having been away for a while you can sometimes forget how beautiful the island really is and lucky as I am to have a view of the sea I'm rarely short of a wonderful vista. Right now the sea looks like a skating rink with a dark silver colour while yesterday it was completely different with golden shades at sunset and a shepherdly delighting red the day before. It's 4:45pm now and the temperature is a respectable 17° Celcius (63° Fahrenheit). The next few days appear to be cloudy while there may also be some drops of rain around at the weekend. Today's photo comes from a peaceful San Pietro Beach in Ischia Porto and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. So after a couple of weeks on the move we're now back in Ischia and I can resume my daily updates. It's impossible to write anything without giving a thought to the events that took place in Paris on Friday, the images of which will stay with us all forever. Our thoughts go out to everybody who was involved but particularly to the victims and their families. The one ray of light in this whole tragedy comes from the touching reaction of the whole world which has collectively declared its support for France and its defiance against these atrocities. Our only possible response is to try and get on with life as normal so that's what we'll do. So until tomorrow, best wishes from those of us who are blessed to be enjoying the November sunshine in Ischia. Ciao
Afternoon all! It's been a whole week since my last update but what I can tell you is that it's been a fabulous week in terms of the weather and that has continued into today. Right now at 4pm it's a very pleasant 20° Celcius (68° Fahrenheit) which is more than acceptable for the 9th of November! The rest of this week is shaping up very well too with similar temperatures to those we have today and no sign of rain either. My next update will also be a bit delayed as we'll be taking a quick holiday before getting back here to resume normal duties. We are still picking up emails and messages though so don't be afraid if you've got something to ask or if you just want to say hello. Today's photo comes from the Frassitelli to Falanga Walk and I'll be back soon. Au revoir ;-)
Hello all. It's been a wonderful day today, plenty of sunshine around and feeling quite warm this afternoon, up around 20° Celcius (68° Fahrenheit) which is pretty good for November. Being a national holiday, The Day of the Dead as mentioned yesterday (not a Zombie film!), it meant there were even people on the beaches catching a few rays. Driving past Chiaia Beach in Forio today (the subject of today's photo) it was interesting to note how much bigger the beach looks without all the sunbeds and parasols on it. Right now at 8:15pm it's a nice, clear evening and the temperature is 16°C (61°F) while looking ahead we look set for more of the same for the next week or so. My next update will be on Thursday as I'm travelling for a few days so until then, ciao :-)
Evening everyone. Into November we go and apart from being a new month, November 1st is a significant date in the Italian calendar as it's All Saints Day, known as "Ognissanti" in Italy which is also a national holiday. Last night we had Halloween and tomorrow is "Il Giorno dei Morti" (The Day of the Dead in English) which isn't nearly as creepy as it sounds! Actually it's a day to remember loved ones who have passed away by visiting their graves. It's been sunny today but with very strong winds. Right now at 7:45pm it's 16° Celcius (61° Fahrenheit) and still windy. Tomorrow should see a similar story but by Tuesday the wind should be gone, leaving a nice sunny spell. Today's photo shows the colourful sea by Maronti Beach in Barano. A presto, cia
Evening all. We're getting towards the end of of what's been a fairly grubby day in Ischia if truth be told. There was a good amount of overnight rain which then gave way to a reasonably sunny morning but since this afternoon it's been pretty much constant drizzle all the way. Right now at 8pm we've still got some light rain and the temperature is 16° Celcius (61° Fahrenheit). Today's rain did also unfortunately put a stop to the wine festival that was due to take place over in neighbouring island Procida this evening so if you're on your way there please turn round! Tomorrow should be much drier although there are rumours of some strong winds moving in so we'll keep an eye out for those. Today's photo comes from the Mount Epomeo walk in Fontana. Back tomorrow! :-)
