Afternoon/early evening folks (doesn't quite work as a phrase does it). It's just gone 5pm here in Ischia on what's been another very hot day and the temperature right now is 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit) with another sultry evening in store, tonight's minimum expected to be 24°C (75°F). There's really nothing to see if you look at the weather forecast for the next 7 days, nothing apart from sunshine that is so I'll take the opportunity to give a little plug to La Mortella Gardens who have their final outdoor concert of the year at their Greek theatre tonight, a classical concert featuring the composer Donizetti. I hope to be there and to get some photos of what is a truly stunning setting. Today's effort comes from Maronti Beach and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone and welcome back to Ischia, another late update today as the sun starts to make its way west, casting that huge silver shadow on the sea in Forio. Right now at 7pm it's 30° Celcius (86° Fahrenheit) with the now customary minimum of 24°C (75°F) expected for tonight. It's been an improved day today in terms of weather, none of the clouds or slight spots of rain that we had yesterday and things are really set fair for the next seven days or so. In fact the temperatures are due to rise a bit from tomorrow with highs of 34°C (93°F) forecast. Today's photo comes from the ever-beautiful village of Sant'Angelo, one of my favourite places on the island and a great place for photographers with such a great array of colours on display. I'll be back tomorrow anyway, ciao :-)
Buona sera Ischia Reviewees everywhere. All is relatively calm as we await the storm otherwise known as August when the island is at its busiest. Ischia is visited throughout the year by an even spread of nationalities but with August being the time when most Italian families take their holidays we're about to embark on a month of fun, noise and probably a bit of chaos too! Right now though as things are quite tranquil, with the time coming up to 7:45pm the temperature is 30° Celcius (86° Fahrenheit), dropping to a minimum of 24°C (75°F) by midnight. There was a tiny drop of rain this morning and a few clouds too but the rest of the week should be clear. So with the sun about to set I'll leave you with a dreamy shot of Chiesa del Soccorso, Forio. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and welcome to the new week in Ischia. Although we're still just a little shy of the really busy season of August there have already been some signs of things to come with lots of requests coming in and the island generally filling up for the month ahead. Weather-wise right now at 6pm it's sunny and 31° Celcius (88° Fahrenheit) although there were a few clouds around this morning as well as a bit of wind out at sea. Tonight should see the regulation 25°C (77°F) minimum and sun worshipers here for the week will have their faith rewarded with various levels of hot and sunny for the next 7 days. Today's photo comes from Sant'Angelo where it looks like just one for lunch at Ristorante Deus Neptunus and I'll be back with some more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona domenica everybody. It's one of the most important dates in the Ischia calendar today with the "Festa di Sant'Anna" celebrated this evening outside Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte. Looking out on Citara Bay I would usually see scores of private yachts but there are none today as they are all jostling for the best spot outside the castle. With the festivities starting at 9pm tonight I would urge anybody to get there as soon as you can to secure the best viewing spot. Right now at 1:45pm it's 32° Celcius (90° Fahrenheit) and tonight's minimum will be 24°C (75°F). We'll try and get some great photos tonight but for now will leave you with this delicious view of Zaro, the little paradise within paradise at the edge of Forio. Back with more tomorrow, have fun tonight! Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. The weekend is underway and the island is rapidly filling up with people from around the world who are here to join in with the Festa di Sant'Anna celebrations as well as those that are already here generally enjoying the sunshine and all the other lovely stuff there is here. Right now at 4:45pm it's 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit), sunny with a light breeze. The forecast does show the chance of rain over the next few hours but it doesn't look particularly scary. I would urge anybody who is on the island this evening to get down to Ischia Ponte where musician Marcello Colasurdo will be strutting his stuff. Even if you don't speak Italian or know his music you'll be hooked after a few minutes and that's from personal experience. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Is that the weekend I hear calling? I think it might be you know. Well we've had some interesting developments with the weather over the last 24 hours. First there was a freak storm that came from nowhere last night but thankfully only lasted an hour. Then today is the hottest of the year so far, my thermometer reading at an incredible 36° Celcius (97° Fahrenheit) at 6pm. That's hot! Things will cool down this evening, a more manageable 25°C (77°F) expected around midnight and the pattern should continue for the coming week. The build up to the Festa di Sant'Anna continues, the big day is on Sunday but don't miss the amazing Marcello Colasurdo tomorrow night in Ischia Ponte. Today's photo comes from Michael's Beach in Sant'Angelo. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all, how are you all today? Me? Oh I'm good thanks, slowly roasting away in the afternoon sun (actually technically speaking I'm now in the shade and only roasted in the morning sun). Right now at 4:45pm it's a steamy 34° Celcius (93° Fahrenheit) and it'll be another night of sleeping with all the doors and windows open with a minimum of 25°C (77°F). The weather forecast tells me we're about to have a storm but it looks at best unlikely, at worst, fanciful but we'll see. We're just a few days away (Sunday) from the spectacular Festa di Sant'Anna in Ischia Ponte and for the next two nights there's also a pizza festival in Forio. I'll be back with more tomorrow but will leave you with a nice, chilled-out photo of some sunbathing in Lacco Ameno. Ciao :-)
Buona sera folks and welcome back to the cauldron of Ischia circa summer 2015. It's just gone 7pm and the temperature at the moment is a sticky 31° Celcius (88° Fahrenheit). It was hotter earlier but some of the edge starts to come off the searing mid-afternoon heat as the sun starts to go down. Although it's been mostly sunny today there have been more clouds around than in recent times. Looking ahead at the next 7 days there's really nothing untoward on the horizon apart from maybe a brief shower on Friday which would be most welcome. I'll give a little plug to this New York Times article (not that they need it!) about cooking in the sand in Ischia and with that will leave you to gaze upon some yachts in Ischia Porto for today's photo. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and welcome back to scorching hot Ischia. It's just gone 4:30pm and we've got temperatures of 33° Celcius (91° Fahrenheit) but there is a slight breeze to make conditions feel slightly more comfortable. Tonight's minimum should be around 25°C (77°F) and generally looking ahead things remain extremely positive. However, what's that I see on the horizon for next Monday? For the first time in a long time there's a prediction for a shower so we'll wait to see if that freak of recent nature comes to fruition or not. Today's photo comes once again from Lacco Ameno, the La Battigia restaurant displaying their specials for the day. So with the sweat dripping from my fingertips with the effort of the update I'd better go and have a rest... A Domani, ciao :-)
