Afternoon everyone, peace reigns once again in Ischia as the weekend gently fades into Monday, leaving the island, its beaches and the sea around it all much clearer. Right now it's just coming up to 3pm and we've got a slightly cooler 32° Celcius (90° Fahrenheit) which does give a slight relief to the searing temperatures we had over the last couple of days. Tonight's minimum will be a bearable 25°C (77°F) and there's still no sign of anything other than sunshine for at least the next week. The Ischia Global Film & Music Fest 2015 ended last night but the glamour continues with a visit to the island by the superyacht Tatoosh, owned by Microsoft's Paul Allen, moored in Lacco Ameno, home of the mushroom (Il Fungo) rock which is today's photo. Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Evening all. The weekend is slowly drawing to a close but with the sun setting at around 8:30pm at this time of year, there are still plenty of people on the beaches enjoying the warmth and the sunshine. Right now at 7:30pm it's still 31° Celcius (88° Fahrenheit) and it's been a fair bit hotter than that during the afternoon too. Things will cool down a bit as night gradually starts to draw in and tonight's minimum will be 24°C (75°F). The unusually long dry spell (I don't think it's rained once in the last 30 days) continues for at least the next week or so and temperatures remain stable, but maybe one or two degrees less than we've had this weekend. Today's photo comes from the gorgeous Maronti Beach in Barano and on that note I'll say bye, back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Good afternoon from a sweltering Ischia where we're currently enjoying the hottest day of the year so far. Right now at 4pm it's 35° Celcius (95° Fahrenheit) and the only place to be right now is either in the water, under some shade or somewhere in between (see today's photo!). We're set for another beautiful evening with temperatures never dropping below 25°C (77°F) and looking at the next week or so the trend continues, even if a couple of degrees cooler. There are all kind of weird and wonderful things going on around the island today including a Ferrari rally and a walk up to the island's oldest church, la Chiesa di San Nicola on Mount Epomeo. I'd also like to give a special mention to Gavin Morton's cycling expedition & apart from that I'll be back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone and welcome to the weekend. It is and has been another gloriously hot day and even now at almost 6pm the temperature is 34° Celcius (93° Fahrenheit). With the sun setting around 8:30pm that means there's still a good few hours to go for a swim in the water that's been gradually heating up all day, just as the bulk of the people start to go home or back to their hotels for the day so that's something I would fully recommend. It's going to be another balmy night with a minimum of 26°C (79°F) and looking ahead conditions are set to stay the same, possibly peaking in heat tomorrow afternoon. Today's photo comes from the wonderful La Mortella Gardens in Forio that held one of its open-air concerts last night and with that I'm going to sign off until tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all! So what's going on in Ischia today? Well the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest continues for a few more days yet so if anybody fancies watching a free movie or 5 then check out our guide at the link above. Weather-wise it's another stunner, right now at 4pm and just before "wake-up and go back to work time" it's 34° Celcius (93° Fahrenheit) and another very warm evening beckons with a minimum of 25°C (77°F) expected. The rest of the week will continue to boil and conditions are just about ideal for laying back and relaxing on a yacht which is exactly what Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel was caught doing yesterday somewhere around Lacco Ameno. Today's photo is the imperious Castello Aragonese and I'll be back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera folks and welcome to my little afternoon warble. I've just taken a pre-post wander outside and have randomly come up with the thought that if the weather today was a pizza then it would most certainly be a "Diavola" (devil) which is the hottest and spiciest pizza on most Neapolitan and Ischian restaurant menus. Right now at 5:15pm it's a palate-busting 34° Celcius (93° Fahrenheit) while this evening we'll see the inferno cool down to a minimum of 26°C (79°F) before firing up the wood oven for more of the same tomorrow. In other news, Antonio Banderas has professed his love for Ischia while other celebrities paparazzi-snapped yesterday include American TV presenter Jimmy Kimmel who's here to receive an award. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and welcome back to film festival crazy Ischia which continues to grab its annual share of the limelight as the celebrities continue to make their way to the island with paparazzi firmly in tow. We gave Antonio Banderas a mention yesterday and today there are photos of Helen Mirren doing the rounds as she and her husband arrived at the Hotel Regina Isabella for another VIP shindig. Welcoming the Prime Suspect star on her arrival is another gorgeous, sunny and hot day. Right now at 4:45 pm the thermometer is once again showing 31° Celcius (88° Fahrenheit) and tonight we'll have a very warm minimum of 26°C (79°F). The rest of the week looks great too so I'll crawl back into the shade for another 24 hours or so and report back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and welcome back to glitzy Ischia where the stars of stage and screen are gathering for the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest, a week of awards, parties and perhaps a teeny weeny holiday too. Arriving on the island today is the legendary Antonio Banderas, star of Evita, The Mask of Zorro and more recently the Mulino Bianco adverts (sorry Antonio). To welcome the celebrities the weather is in fine fettle with a lovely breeze to go along with the 32° Celcius (90° Fahrenheit) that we have right now at 3:45pm. Things get even hotter from Wednesday onwards but for tonight we'll have a minimum of 24°C (75°F). Today's photo comes from Ischia Ponte where you can find this charming grocery store with a bit of everything. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all! We're just a few moments away from another wonderful sunset here in Forio on the west coast of the island on what has been an idyllic Sunday. The weather continues to be fabulously metronomic, again in the low 30's and not a cloud to be seen anywhere. Right now at 8:15pm it's 30° Celcius (86° Fahrenheit) and tonight's minimum will again be around 24°C (75°F). Looking at the week ahead there's nothing but sunshine predicted along with a bump in temperatures around Tuesday. I'll give another mention today to the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest which offers a wide range of movies at locations across the island and all free to those lucky enough to be there in time. Today's image is from the bay of Citara and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera folks! It's another one of those important days in the Ischia calendar as the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest gets underway. It's always quite a big deal around these parts and brings a little bit of extra glitter to the island with star names making an appearance this year including the likes of Helen Mirren and Antonio Banderas. There will be others throughout the week too so keep your eyes peeled and if you can manage a cheeky selfie (groupie?) with a Hollywood celeb then send it our way please! Right now at 7pm it's cooling down but we're still up at 31° Celcius (88° Fahrenheit) and tonight's minimum will be a sticky 24°C (75°F). Today's photo comes from Fisherman's Beach in Ischia Ponte and I'll be back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
