Bicycle and Plants in Ischia Porto

Good afternoon everyone. It's that time of the day where the island collectively eases back and puts its feet up for a few hours. From around 1pm to 4:30pm give or take a little bit, most working people go on their afternoon break which is something between a siesta and a lunch break but generally more focused around eating than sleeping. We've got another beautiful day in terms of the weather as well and right now at 3:45pm it's a lovely 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit), feeling very warm and tranquil. Things should stay this way until tonight at which point we'll see a change with some rain and cooler temperatures for most of tomorrow. Monday is set to be cooler still but by Tuesday we should be getting back to normal spring business again. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Buona sera everyone and welcome to the weekend. It's been an absolutely fabulous day on the island today with the sunshine returning in a big way after a mostly cloudy week. When the sun comes out like this in spring it's such a wonderful place to be with largely empty beaches on which to sunbathe in complete peace. Add in the colours provided by the spring flowers such as the bougainvillea in its deep reds and purples along with the warm sun on your back and there's not much more you could ask for. Right now at 6:15pm it's 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit), still beautifully sunny and not a cloud to be seen. Tomorrow should be very similar while at the moment Sunday and Monday aren't shaping up too well but let's wait and see. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Forio Harbour

Afternoon folks. We're racing towards another bank holiday weekend in Italy with the 1st May celebrated as La Festa del Lavoro (Labour Day in English). This will be a busy time on the island and although we're not quite there yet, the weather is looking promising for the days to come. This morning started nice and brightly with plenty of sunshine around but since lunch time we've been covered by a thickish band of cloud that refuses to budge. Right now at 4:45pm it's 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit) and conditions should stay the same for the rest of this evening. Tomorrow promises to be much better however with the cloud set to disperse and Saturday also expected to be sunny. Today's photo comes from Forio harbour and I'll be back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Ischia Porto

Evening everyone. As expected, today has been pretty much a replica of yesterday, not quite perfect but still pleasant enough. Throughout the day there's been a constant ebb and flow between cloudy and sunny spells and to give an example of that, the sun has come out and gone back in again three times already since I started writing this update! Right now at 5:15pm it's 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit) and for the rest of the evening we should see a continuation of what we've had so far today. Looking too far ahead when conditions are as unsettled as they are can catch you out so for now tomorrow looks like it might be cloudy before a much improved Friday and Saturday. Today's photo of Ischia Porto shows today's weather perfectly and I'll be back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Chiaia Beach, Forio

Hello everyone. So what twists and turns has the weather had for us today? Well on the whole it's been fairly pleasant so far and a big improvement on what we've had for the last couple of days. This morning was dry with occasional outbreaks of sunshine mixed in with some cloudy spells. Right now at 4:30pm it's 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit) and we once again have some interesting patterns out at sea being formed by some identically interesting patterns up above. There is still a fairly stiff breeze around as well but it's not enough to cause the white horses out at sea and the ferries and hydrofoils are now back to normal. Looking ahead, tomorrow should be very similar to today but beyond that we may see a few more clouds again. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)

La Scarrupata, Barano

Afternoon all. Well the wacky world of weather in Ischia continues today. It's a bank holiday Monday with many shops and businesses closed but it hasn't really been a day where the locals could pass the time on the beach. This morning we had a mixture of cloud and sunshine with some really strong winds making the sea look almost more white than blue. Then about 2 seconds after I decided to go shopping it started raining (not good when you're on a scooter) and lasted until the exact moment that I stepped indoors again. In fact I won't go out again as I don't want to spoil it for everyone else so as it is now at 6:30pm, bright and sunny with a temperature of 17° Celsius (63° Fahrenheit) it shall hopefully stay! The next few days promise to be dry and not quite so windy. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Sant'Angelo

Buona sera everyone. It's a bank holiday weekend in Italy and Ischia but the weather really is all over the place today. This morning started off ok but then followed a period of showers which in turn gave way to some bright and sunny spells. Right now at 5:30pm it's 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit) but most noteworthy is the wind with gusts of up to 20 knots causing havoc out at sea and disruption to many of the day's ferries and hydrofoils. On days like this it's worth bearing in mind that the ferries are always less likely to be cancelled than the hydrofoils which are always more susceptible to these conditions. The winds should die down by tomorrow which looks like it might be unusually cold before things improve again by Tuesday. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Vintage Green Vespa Scooter

Hi everyone. We're in the midst of a very unpredictable spell of weather at the moment in Ischia. Yesterday we had constant cloud cover while today started off terribly with thunder, lightning and showers before giving way yo a rather pleasant afternoon. Right now at 4:15pm we've got a mixture of sunny and cloudy spells and a temperature of 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit). The clouds are creating some amazing silhouettes out at sea and as I look out over Citara Bay I can see a pattern of huge dark blue discs in a diagonal line, a little bit like those crop circles that kept popping up in Britain a few years ago. Whether this suggests some kind of alien encounter we'll have to wait and see and the same applies to the weather which is a bit of a mystery today as well. A domani, ciao :-)

Afternoon everyone. The grey skies that started to engulf us yesterday are still in evidence today and if anything, slightly greyer and more menacing. Throughout the day we've had intermittent spells of very brief showers with light rain and quite a drop in temperatures too. Right now at 4:15pm it's 17° Celsius (63° Fahrenheit) and just as I type, another of the day's low hanging clouds glides past the bay in front of me and close enough to touch. There doesn't appear to be any change in the offing and as we get into tomorrow we should see heavier and more frequent showers. The situation for Sunday and Monday isn't clear at the moment but there does seem to be a storm brewing before some brighter days come next week. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)

Buona sera folks. We've seen quite a change in the weather today compared to yesterday's sunshine. There have been a few brief spells where the sun has been out today but none of them lasted for long and for the most part there's been a comprehensive covering of cloud. Right now at 5:30pm it's still fairly warm with a temperature of 20° Celsius (68° Fahrenheit) and conditions should stay as they are for the rest of the evening. However, the forecasts for the next few days aren't so promising with more cloud expected tomorrow along with some rain showers. Those clouds and showers could last over the weekend with temperatures gradually falling until Monday at which point things should brighten up. Let's hope the forecasts are wrong anyway!
