Hello everyone. Right now at 6:30pm it's 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) and sunny in Ischia. It wasn't like that earlier though and in fact we had our first drops of rain in what feels like a very long time this morning. The prognosis for tomorrow looks very healthy though, reflecting conditions as they are now rather than how they were this morning. Today's photo shows one of the little pearls of Ischia, the restaurant that lies in the bay known as La Scarrupata. The restaurant can only be reached by sea which makes it ideal for people who have hired a boat for the day. You simply drop anchor in the bay, wave and a man comes to collect you in a wooden boat. The bay itself is gifted with some of the clearest water around the island and making it a great little pit stop. Ciao :-)
Evening all. The sun is setting on another idyllic day in Ischia. It's been beautifully hot again and the only clouds in the sky have been those ones that aren't even strong enough to cause momentary lapses in the sunshine. The top temperature earlier was 28° Celsius (82° Fahrehneit) and looking ahead to tomorrow there's a suggestion of some slightly more robust cloud in the morning before giving way to a sunnier afternoon. For today's photo I've chosen one of my favourite subjects, the wonderful Fiat 500. You see so many on this island where the roads are narrow and perfectly suited to small cars but almost without fail, the owners of these icons of Italian life take such great care of them. I love this little red number, equipped with picnic hamper on the back. Ciao :-)
It's been another beautiful Sunday around these parts with lashings of sunshine. Sunday is the day when I try and explore Ischia or the surrounding area and today's exploration took me to the neighbouring island of Procida. There are plenty of crossings throughout the day between the two islands and with a hydrofoil journey of around 20/25 minutes from Ischia Porto or Casamicciola it means you can get there quickly and easily. Although Procida is smaller than Ischia there's still a lot to see with the undoubted highlight being the pretty Marina Corricella. Close by you can find the area in today's photo, the Casale Vascello, colourful houses that were built in times when the island was threatened by pirates. Tomorrow's weather? Looking good! Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone and welcome back to Ischia on another sweltering, soporific afternoon. We've got clear blue skies again and it's perfect weather for the last weekend of busy August. There are still lots and lots of people around and the town centres will be buzzing this evening with holidaymakers and locals alike pouring into bars and restaurants. I took a wander down to Sant'Angelo earlier where the village centre was fairly quiet with most people congregating on the beaches. In fact today's photo was taken just a few hours ago and shows just what a gorgeous day it is. Right now at 6pm it's 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) and for the most part things are shaping up for another fine day tomorrow. The one difference being the wind might be a more significant factor as we get towards the evening. Back again tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Well hello there! Long time no blog I hear you say. The truth is it's been an incredibly busy month here and my long-suffering brain just couldn't cope with the multi-tasking (confirming of course that I am therefore a man). However, we're into the last knockings of August now and the landscape is starting to change somewhat meaning I can now resume from where I left off. Today's weather is suitably boiling, 31° Celsius (88° Fahrenheit) right now and blue skies all round. There's no sign of change for tomorrow so without further ado I'll mention La Festa di Sant'Alessandro, an annual costume parade that will be starting from Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte and finishing in Ischia Porto. This is always a fascinating display and a glimpse into the island's past. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. The weekend has arrived and as I look outside at this very moment I can see the sea glistening under the sunshine as it softly ripples with the breeze. It's another boiling day (ok, not quite 100°C boiling but you know what I mean). To be precise, right now at 4:30pm it's a whopping 31° Celsius (88° Fahrenheit) and really too hot to do anything other than relax, preferably by some water. Aside from some cloud cover tomorrow morning there's really nothing in the forecasts to suggest anything other than a fabulous couple of days and things will certainly be busy around these parts. Today's photo shows Ischia Ponte, this is a great place to walk from if you're staying in Ischia Porto, you can walk all the way along the sea and then visit Castello Aragonese. Ciao :-)
Hi all. The sun continues to beat down here in Ischia and the island is noticeably filling up as we approach the very busiest two weeks of the year. Known as Ferragosto, August 15th is a national holiday in Italy and during the two weeks before and after that date the country almost comes to a standstill with a large percentage of people on holiday. That really busy spell will begin this weekend and just walking around the island today it's easy to see the build-up. On that note, anybody looking for car hire, boat rental or other services during this time it's best to book as far in advance as possible because we're already finding it difficult to find things available. The temperature right now at 7:45pm is 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit) with more of the same expected tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Good evening folks and welcome back to the good ship Ischia where things are all ticking along very nicely thank you. It's been another sumptuous, sun-drenched day with a beautiful sultry evening about to follow. Right now at 7pm it's the regulation 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit) and things won't drop any lower than 24°C (75°F) in the small hours, warm enough to sleep outside if you like that kind of thing. Tomorrow looks set to be very similar with only the wispiest of clouds to be seen and apart from that, the only thing on the weather horizon for the next week or so is the potential for a very light shower on Saturday. Today's photo comes from close to Michelangelo's Tower in Ischia Ponte, one of the best places on the island to view Castello Aragonese from. Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone. It's been a perfect summer's day in Ischia so far and the small threat of rain that was forecast seems to have been nothing but a figment of somebody's imagination or a miscalculation somewhere along the line. My thermometer seems to be permanently stuck on 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit) these days and that is indeed the temperature right now at 6:45pm. Between now and Friday we should see a repetition of today's conditions while the long-range forecast suggests there may be a shower or two over the weekend. Today's photo comes from Maronti Beach, the longest beach on the island and one of the most picturesque, particularly when viewed from above along the road that leads down to it from Testaccio. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Good evening everyone. So into the new week and the new month we go. By our recent excellent weather standards August hasn't got off to the perfect start, I'd probably give it an 8.5 out of 10. It's been mostly sunny but there was a period of a couple of hours earlier with some thick, dark very menacing cloud around which thankfully turned into nothing. Right now at 7:15pm it's 28° Celsius (82° Fahrenheit), bright in most places but with some fluffy puffs of white out at sea to make things interesting. Conditions are set to continue in this vein tomorrow, carrying a very minor threat of a shower towards the end of the day. Today's photo comes from the heart of the island, Ischia Porto where most people's adventures on the island start and finish. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
