Hi everyone. It's a sultry, sumptuous afternoon in Ischia on the final day of June. Unlike yesterday we've got unbroken sunshine and there's not a cloud to be seen. The temperature right now at 3:15pm is 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) and again we've been blessed with a light breeze to take some of the edge off the heat. The forecast for the next 7 days is a joy to behold, big sun icons all the way and by Saturday they turn red meaning it's going to get really hot! Today's photo shows the water taxis in Sant'Angelo. These can be particularly useful if you're staying in the village and looking for an alternative way of getting around instead of by bus. The most popular destinations from there are Sorgeto Hot Springs and Maronti Beach with prices very reasonable. A domani. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. We've got a pleasant enough day here today without being dazzlingly sunny. It's some way short of being what you'd describe as overcast but there's a grey-blue covering of light cloud and occasional bursts of sunshine. Right now at 4pm it's 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) with just a light breeze, definitely one of those days where you can get caught out if you don't put enough sun cream on so don't forget! Tomorrow is the last day of June, a month where we saw an unusual amount of cloud, certainly for the first half of the month but looking at the weather forecast for the next 7 days, it looks as though we're going to have an extended spell of unbroken sunshine and temperatures regularly in excess of 30°C, otherwise known as summer. Back again tomorrow, ciao :-)
Hi everyone. So the stresses and strains of the Euro 2016 football tournament are no longer on the agenda, in some cases just for a few days but in others, well rather longer (ahem). Away from sports-related anguish we have a contrastingly peaceful day in Ischia with everything in its right place. The sun is located centrally above me, unobscured by even the merest hint of cloud and out on the calm sea a large yacht passes in a northerly direction with a smaller speedboat in tow, resembling a rather large swan with its offspring dutifully bringing up the rear. Right now at 4:45pm the thermometer is showing 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit) but with an absence of wind it feels a little hotter than that. Tomorrow's shaping up to be a very similar affair as well so until then, ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. I thought I should get today's update in a bit earlier today. With a double whammy of important matches in Euro 2016 imminent there's likely to be a lull in production from 5pm onwards when the Italian national team take on Spain, followed by England v Iceland. For those of you who like to watch your football on a big screen, outside when it's nice and warm then there are no shortage of bars and restaurants available in the town centres. The day started off a little surprisingly with some heavy cloud and light showers this morning but since those burned away it's been absolutely gorgeous. Right now at 3pm it's 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) with just a light breeze to take the edge off the heat and we should be set fair for the rest of the week now. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone and welcome back to a hot and sticky Ischia. The recent change in the weather seems to have settled in now and after a strange first three weeks or so of June things are now very much as you'd expect them to be. Right from the word go it was bright and sunny this morning and coupled with an absence of any breeze it's felt just as hot as the previous few days, without quite reaching into the thirties. Right now at 7:15pm it's 27° Celsius (81° Fahrenheit) and as I look out to sea it's noticeable that the bay, which until a few hours ago was teeming with yachts and dinghies is now emptying as visitors make their way home at the end of the weekend. The week to come looks like it's going to be great, lots of sunshine and heat so pack light if you're on your way! Ciao :-)
Evening folks. The weather forecasts seem to be getting more accurate each day now and yesterday's proved to be correct with a beautifully hot day. The only place to be today was in the water with temperatures once again soaring around the 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) mark and with the sun beating down you had to spare a thought for any poor soul that had to work in those sometimes stifling conditions. The heat could even be felt when riding around on a scooter where you have a draft to help keep you cool but today's air was thick with the heat. Looking ahead, tomorrow might see the temperature drop by a couple of degrees which should make it more comfortable but I wouldn't recommend straying too far from the beach or your hotel's pool for the day. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. It's a late update at the end of what's been a sweltering day in Ischia. It looks like the summer switch has finally been pushed all the way to "on" after being stuck on "standby" for the last few weeks and today feels very different. It hasn't been sunny for the whole day, there have been some long spells of sunshine but also other spells where it's been cloudy. The big difference though is the temperature which has soared above 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) today for the first time this year. Even right now at 10:15pm it's still 26°C (79°F) and feeling very warm. Tomorrow is expected to see a repeat of today so the island will be busy tomorrow with people heading down to the beaches to make the most of their weekends. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera folks. It's a day of big decisions in the UK while in Ischia we're still waiting for decisive news on the weather front. I've become very wary of trying to predict the weather over the last month or so as it's lurked between phases of Jekyll and Hyde and nobody had a clue what to expect today. In fact this morning started quite badly with hailstones, thunder and lightning before gradually clearing up to leave a very pleasant summer's day. However, much in keeping with the general uncertainty of the day things have once again clouded over and there are the lightest of rain drops in the air, a situation that looks likely to continue for the rest of this evening. Tomorrow though should see a big change with our first 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit) day of the year. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. It's been another one of those forecast-busting days but not in the positive sense unfortunately. Despite most forecasts predicting a sunny day with a few scattered clouds we've had a thick covering of cloud pretty much all day since early this morning. In terms of the temperature it's been quite warm and even right now at 8:30pm it's 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit), enough to need all the doors and windows open unless you have air-conditioning of course. Predicting the weather accurately has become really difficult over the last month or so with conditions not fitting with what you'd normally expect for June. Even the forecast for tomorrow has changed twice within the last 5 minutes so for now I think it's a case of wait, see & hope for the best. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. Summer is well and truly upon us and we have a typically idyllic day today. The biggest sign of summer is of course the weather but there are all the little telltale signs that go with it such as the increased amount of boats out on the water, the distant noise of children playing in the sea and the augmented flow of people making their way to and from the beaches. Right now at 5pm it's a very pleasant 25° Celsius (77° Fahrenheit), with a deliciously gentle breeze and much calmer yet still rippling sea. Looking ahead to tomorrow we should see very similar conditions but with an increase in temperature. At the moment, Thursday is the only day that carries the suggestion of any unsettled weather but I'll be back tomorrow to give you an update on that. Ciao :-)
