Afternoon folks. The last few hours of the regular working week are upon us and we've got a really fine day here in Ischia. There were a few clouds around this morning but they soon burned away when the sun started to rise. Right now at 3:15pm it's sunny and feeling quite warm with a temperature of 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit). There is a bit of wind around and a few ripples out at sea but so far not threatening any travel to and from Naples. It looks like we should see a continuation of the current conditions all the way through the weekend and well into next week with temperatures similar to what we've got today. Today's photo comes from Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte, a seagull keeping watch over the castle. Back with more tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. The sun has just set on Ischia as the days start to get perceptibly longer the closer we get to spring. Today that came at 17:43 (to be precise!) and is a sure sign that we're now gradually starting to move away from instead of towards winter. That said, there's still a good chunk of winter to get through yet with spring just over 4 more weeks away and today's weather has reflected that. Nothing dramatic in terms of wind and rain but just a little bit cold and cloudy with temperatures for most of the day hovering around 12° Celsius (54° Fahrehneit). The forecasts are saying that it's supposed to be windy in Ischia right now but it's only very light wind at the moment and tomorrow is set to be pleasant. Today's photo comes from La Scarrupata in Barano. A domani. Ciao :-)
Buona sera folks. It's been a cooler but still pleasant day today in Ischia. The warm African sirocco of yesterday paid us the briefest of visits and today we returned to normal winter fayre with a mixture of sunshine and cloud. Right now at 5:35pm it's 14° Celsius (57° Fahrenheit) and one of those evenings where the sunset was a non-event with the thick cloud covering it on the horizon. The cloud looks set to stick around through until tomorrow morning at which point it may well bring a few showers before being blown away by a westerly breeze. Today's photo comes from the Miramare Sea Resort & Spa in Sant'Angelo which enjoys one of the best views in Ischia, looking out across the bay to the neighbouring island of Capri in the distance. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. We've had a fantastic day of weather in Ischia today with a mini-heatwave fuelled by the warm African sirocco winds finding their way a little further north than usual. This afternoon at lunchtime it was a wonderful 21° Celsius (70° Fahrenheit), otherwise known as T-shirt weather. Things have cooled down somewhat now and there's a noticeable breeze as well. For the rest of this week conditions should stay fairly settled, mostly sunny but with the odd shower here and there. Things are very quiet on the island at this time of year but with Easter just over a month away we'll gradually start to see a change with more visitors meaning more hotels and restaurants open. Today's photo comes from Sorgeto Hot Springs in Panza. A domani. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. It's almost sunset in Ischia at the beginning of the new week. Since my previous update on Friday it seems the forecasters got it mostly wrong with their warnings of heavy storms. In fact Saturday was a beautiful, sunny day with a few spots of rain while yesterday's showers and winds weren't quite on the level expected. Today things have been very calm although the sea is still a bit choppy from yesterday. Right now at 5:30pm it's actually quite warm at 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) and we look set for a mild evening. For the week ahead we should see a much more settled picture with mostly sunshine and the occasional shower while tomorrow could bring a mini heatwave. For today's photo I'll leave you with the beautiful city of Naples. A domani. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. The weekend is once again upon us and marks the beginning of a turbulent period of weather in Ischia. Early this morning there were some heavy rain showers which then gave way to a mainly cloudy afternoon with a few sunny spells. Right now at 6pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit) and all appears calm outside but that's all set to change. For the the rest of this evening we're expecting further showers and a growing wind which will last until tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. Things will calm down a bit on Saturday night before a heavier storm that's due to arrive early on Sunday morning and last into the beginning of next week. I'll be away for a couple of days and my next update will be on Monday so have a great weekend. Today's photo, red sky over Forio. Ciao :-)
Afternoon all. Things are much more sedate in Ischia today after the battering ram of a wind we had yesterday. In fact there's hardly been any wind at all since the mini-storm blew itself out early this morning. There was some fairly heavy overnight rain, the type that wakes you up as it hammers down on the roof, but since then it's been a very pleasant winter's day with a mixture of sunny and cloudy spells. Right now at 4:30pm the sun is out and it's 14° Celsius (57° Fahrenheit) with conditions expected to stay the same throughout the rest of this evening. Tomorrow should start brightly but a fairly nasty storm is brewing out there somewhere and could last from the early hours of Saturday through to Monday next week. Back with another update tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Hello again everyone. Well there's only one word for how the weather has been today and that's windy. Since this morning it's been blowing a gale out there with anything that wasn't nailed down flying all over the place. At one stage the wind was up to around 26 knots (which technically is just short of a gale but then that doesn't sound quite so exciting) making conditions out at sea extremely hazardous with huge white waves dancing around as far as the eye could see. In terms of temperature right now at 6:15pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit) and although dry for the moment there are a couple of small showers expected over the next few hours. By the morning the wind should have petered out before returning with gusto on Friday. Back tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Buona sera everyone. Night time is upon us in Ischia on what is an important day on the calendar across the world. In Italy it's the day for "Carnevale" when across the country people get dressed up in fancy dress costumes or take part in parades such as the big ones in Venice, Viareggio or Acireale in Sicily. For many others it's "Mardi Gras", "Fat Tuesday" or "Shrove Tuesday" and being an Englishman I'll opt for the latter of those options as it means delicious pancakes! In terms of the weather it's been a bit grey but not particularly cold. Right now at 6:45pm it's 13° Celsius (55° Fahrenheit) and dry although there is some rain expected any time. It's also quite windy and the forecasts for the next few days are a bit "iffy" let's say. I'm off for a pancake anyway. A domani. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. The new week has started with a greyish day in Ischia. Yesterday's clouds have extended in to today which has occasionally been punctuated by some sunny spells but also a couple of brief showers. There was some wind expected to move in but that hasn't materialised with the sea currently a picture of calm and flat as a billiard table (when not quite but you know what I mean). Temperature-wise right now at 4pm it's 13° Celsius (55° Fahrenheit) and for the rest of today we should see a continuation of the current conditions although perhaps slightly brighter on the whole. Tomorrow is a big day in Italy and in Ischia, Carnevale or Mardi Gras is celebrated with gusto here with people dressing up on the streets so that should be fun! Back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)
