Evening all. It's that time of day when the sun casts a long reflection that finds its way directly into my office, otherwise known as about 6:30pm. Right now it's fairly warm with a temperature of 22° Celcius (72° Fahrenheit) and the sea is as calm and flat as I can ever remember it. The scene ahead of me couldn't be more tranquil, a single fishing boat passing directly across the sun's full beam while a distant church bell chimes. The forecasts for tomorrow say it will be windy and sunny but there's really no sign of that wind yet so let's see. Today's photo comes from Sant'Angelo, home to one of the best annual events in Ischia, the "Festa di San Michele" which takes place tonight and tomorrow. Check out Silvana's Ischia Blog for more on that. A domani. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. On a day that started with a red moon everything has been a little bit topsy-turvy today and there's a real feeling of change in the air. As we're now into the last few days of September things really have quietened down on the island and it was notable to see a sun-drenched San Francesco Beach almost empty at midday as we passed it on the hydrofoil. The weather has been very pleasant with a maximum of 23° Celcius (73° Fahrenheit) but there has also been a touch of wind around, wobbling the sea somewhat. The wind could be with us into tomorrow afternoon but conditions above should be clement before perhaps turning cloudy around Thursday. Today's photo comes from Citara Bay in Forio and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all! Ischia is currently bathed in darkness, punctuated only by the soft light from the moon, slightly aiding the progress of the occasional fisherman who every now and then comes into full silhouetted view. It's been a gorgeous, sunny day with conditions nice and calm out at sea. Right now at 9:30pm it's 20° Celcius (68° Fahrenheit) and things will stay settled for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow promises to be very positive, lots more sunshine and similar temperatures to those that we've enjoyed today, the only difference being the possibility of some heavy breeze in the afternoon. There could be some some cloud and rain during the second half of the week though. Today's photo comes from Le Fumarole Beach in Sant'Angelo and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Good morning Ischia! It's been a while since I've said that but as I'm updating whilst travelling, things are all a little bit upside down and back to front at the moment. Sitting in exactly the right place however is the sun which is warming up nicely. Right now at 9:30am it's 20° Celcius (68° Fahrenheit) and as we get into the afternoon we should see a maximum of around 23°C (73°F). There is a bit of wind around this morning but that should gradually fizzle out into insignificance. Looking ahead, tomorrow could be a bit cloudy before brightening up again from Monday onwards. I would like at this point to wish the best of luck to James and Lisa on their big day and on that note I'll leave you with a nice, sunny Cartaromana Beach in Ischia Ponte. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Hello everyone! Well we've had some interesting weather over the last 24 hours or with patterns shifting seemingly in time with the official transformation from summer to autumn which took place yesterday. Last night there was heavy thunder and lightning followed by thick bucketfuls of rain. Most of the "action" took place in the early hours though and by morning we were left with a rough sea but mainly sunny skies. Right now at 6:45pm it's 23° Celcius (73° Fahrenheit) and actually that time of day when the sun arrives directly in my face as I scribble away. The forecast for this evening is for sporadic showers but tomorrow should be much brighter with better conditions at sea as well. Today's photo comes from Sant'Angelo, looking out to Panza. Back tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Evening all. Another night hastily draws in on Ischia as we head into the last seven days of September. It's been an up and down weather day with quite a lot of cloud around and just the occasional burst of sunshine. The threat of rain has always felt close but as yet hasn't come to fruition, raising the prospect that I may have to go and water the garden. Right now at 7:30pm it's 23° Celcius (73° Fahrenheit) but as I check the forecasts there does appear to be something nasty moving in which may just mean I can leave the watering can in the shed for another couple of days! There could be some rain around tomorrow too before clearing on Friday. Today's photo comes from the beautiful "belvedere" (viewing area) of Zaro in Forio and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks and a fine afternoon it is too! We've had a gorgeous late summer day so far with lots of sunshine and feeling nice and warm. Right now at 3:30pm it's 25° Celcius (77° Fahrenheit) and things are set to stay like this for the rest of the day. Looking ahead to tomorrow we should see a continuation of today's weather but with a bit of a sting in the tale towards midnight with a storm expected to come in but hopefully just while we're all asleep. The situation for Thursday is a little unclear with some rain and cloud expected throughout the day before clearing again on Friday. Today's photo comes from Ischia Ponte, a small group of sunbathers finding a rather scenic position right next to Castello Aragonese. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone! It's so busy here at the moment that I'm never quite sure what day it is but having just double-checked I can confirm that it is still Monday, just about at least. It's 10:30pm at the end of what's been a beautiful sunny day although a little way short of perfect with some fairly strong winds causing a few extra maritime ripples this afternoon. Looking ahead to tomorrow we should see temperatures of 24° Celcius (75° Fahrenheit) at the top end of the scale with a minimum of 18°C (64°F). The wind that we had today appears to have fizzled out and we should have fine conditions out on the water tomorrow. Walking around in Sant'Angelo this evening we witnessed another beautiful sunset and I think I spotted something in the shape of the rocks, was there something there or do I just need help? Back tomorrow, ciao :-)
Buona domenica everyone! It's been a gorgeous, sunny Sunday in Ischia, not as hot as it's been of late but still warm and perhaps more comfortable with less humidity around. Right now at 6:45pm it's 25° Celcius (77° Fahrenheit) with a minimum of 20°C (68°F) expected by midnight. Overnight there was something that happens quite a lot here, a spectacular electric storm that stayed out at sea with the occasional lightning flash silhouetted by distant clouds. The winds that accompanied the storm left conditions out at sea a bit rough today but the forecasts for the rest of the week show nothing but sunshine and very low winds so ideal for anyone looking to get out on the water. Today's photo provides a typical Ischia scene, shop and microtaxi. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone and it's a slightly cooler and certainly hazier day that kicks off the weekend. Right now at 5:15pm it's 26° Celcius (79° Fahrenheit) and whilst still feeling hot, there are just a few clouds around at the moment, taking the edge off the sunshine. There is a tiny chance of a shower this evening but nothing drastic and there may also be some precipitation around early tomorrow morning. After some initial cloud things should brighten up again on Sunday afternoon with another mainly clear, dry and sunny week to follow. For today's photo I've chosen the picturesque Chiesa di San Giorgio in Barano, one of around 80 churches of Ischia that we have featured on the site. With that I'll leave you to enjoy your Saturday evening and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
