So as if from nowhere, the last day of the year is finally upon us and it's time for us all to let our hair down a bit (depending on how much you already to have to work with of course) and usher in the new year. The final day of 2015 has been sunny again but feeling as cold as it's felt for a long time as 2016 also brings a change in the weather. Right now at 6:15pm it's 9° Celsius (48° Fahrenheit) while tomorrow promises to be a bit cloudier along with the cooler temperatures. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all followers of Ischia Review a very HAPPY NEW YEAR, and who knows, we may even see some of you here again during 2016. The last daily photo for 2015 was taken in Ischia Porto this morning. Have a great night anyway and may the force be with you all...Ciao :-)
Good afternoon everyone. We've had a fine morning and afternoon with plenty of clear skies and after a hard day toiling away up above the sun is heading off east somewhere to relax for a while. Right now at 4:15pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit) and all appears calm but there are reports of some strongish winds on their way this evening. Tomorrow should see a similar story but the forecasts for the first few days in January look a little unpleasant with some rain predicted. Last night saw the Live Nativity (Presepe Vivente) in Campagnano, a fascinating walk back through history to see how the villagers lived in days gone by with a little peek into various home such as in today's photo of some basket weaving. That's all for today anyway, back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. As expected, it's started to cloud over a bit after what was a bright morning. It's feeling a fair bit colder today too and right now at 3:45pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit). Tomorrow should see more sunshine with similar temperatures during the day time but dropping a bit further with the clear night skies. One of the big traditional Ischia Christmas events takes place in Campagnano today, in fact the Live Nativity is just about to start and will draw some big crowds with free shuttle buses available from the sports centre in Ischia Porto. If you want to go and not sure how to get there just drop us a line. I'll be back with another update tomorrow but in the meantime I'll leave you with some festive cheer from Sorriso Thermae Resort & Spa in Forio. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. The sun's still shining in Ischia and it's really not feeling like winter at the moment, at least until night time when all the Christmas lights come on. Right now at 3:30pm it's 16° Celsius (61° Fahrenheit) but things look like they might be about to change shortly. Temperatures should gradually start to drop from tomorrow onwards with the first week of the new year expected to be colder and with some rain around too. Yesterday I mentioned some Christmas events and one of the most important, the Live Nativity which takes place in the village of Campagnano has now been moved to tomorrow instead of today. It's usually a very well attended event and lots of fun so make sure you don't miss that if you're here. Apart from that I'll be back again tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. While for many people the festive season may start to feel almost over, in Ischia it's anything but. Apart from the looming New Years Eve next Thursday and then La Befana the following week, there's still a whole host of events going on around the island. Today for example you can go and visit the world's (or maybe Italy's, I can't remember) largest ice sculpture down in Ischia Ponte, a live nativity in Panza, an ice skating show in Casamicciola and a brass band concert in Forio. Weather wise it's been great again, plenty of sunshine and feeling warm at times. Right now at 3:45pm it's a whopping 16° Celsius (61° Fahrenheit) with more of the same expected tomorrow. With that I'll leave you with good old Santa Claus until some time tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. It's Santo Stefano here in Italy, the day after Christmas Day which is another national holiday and the time of year when I start to get a bit confused about what day of the week it is. I can though confirm that today is almost certainly Saturday and once again the weather has been very kind. This morning I was surprised to see a couple of people bathing in one of the outdoor swimming pools close by and with the combination of a 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) ambient temperature and the hot thermal water of the pools it's easy to understand why. Right now at 6:45pm it's a bit cooler at 12°C (54°F) and tomorrow should stay nice too. Today's photo was taken yesterday, one of the many delights that adorned the dinner table before being swiftly demolished. Ciao :-)
Merry Christmas once again from Ischia Review and from Ischia. It's been a wonderful day of opening presents, spending time with friends and family but above all, of eating and drinking. With a giant slab of Panettone and several hundred biscuits for breakfast it wasn't log before lunch time arrived with pasta, rice, chicken, pork, pretty much every vegetable you can think of and several further dessert courses, oh and fruit! This in addition to wine (normal and mulled varieties) and some lethal shots of Grappa to wash it all down with. The weather has been good too, sunny again like it's been for a while and right now at 5:45pm it's 11° Celsius (52° Fahrenheit) with similar conditions expected for tomorrow. On that note I'll bid you all a pleasant evening. Buon Natale. Ciao :-)
Evening all. We've reached the time where on behalf of myself (Dion) and Silvana, we'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas/Buon Natale from Ischia Review. We've had more sunshine today as the great weather continues but right now at 6pm the temperature has dropped a bit to 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit). There's a really festive atmosphere all across the island at the moment and down in Ischia Porto today there were all kinds of things going on including ice-skating, Christmas markets and bars packed with afternoon revellers enjoying an aperitivo or three. Today's photo also comes from Ischia Porto where this cute little micro-taxi added to the cheerful atmosphere. So have a great evening and I'll be back with a quick update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. Well I've finally got some slightly different news about the weather after a sustained period of sunshine as today is a bit cloudy. Paradoxically however it's a good bit warmer today and right now at 3pm it's 16° Celsius (61° Fahrenheit). The outlook for the next week is still very positive though and today's clouds appear to be little more than a blip. Christmas is but a whisker away now and try as you might to get on with your normal routine there does come a time where you just have to down tools and deal with other stuff such as the terrifying prospect of wrapping presents, an ordeal I'll be embarking on shortly. Continuing the theme with today's photo is this wonderful, illuminated mushroom thingy currently on display in Ischia Porto. A domani. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. We've had another great day of weather in Ischia with lots of sunshine, very little wind and precisely zero rain. It's not really Christmas weather but you won't find anybody complaining about that as this very positive spell continues. The pre-Christmas shopping blitz/panic is in full swing in Ischia just as it is in most of the Western world, I personally sneaked in my final bits and bobs purchases this afternoon before the hordes descended on Ischia Porto which as I type is chock-a-block with shoppers. Right now at 6:45pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit) and there's still no sign of any change for the next week at least. Today's photo shows one of the many Christmas light installations all around the island, this particular one in Ischia Porto. Ciao :-)
