Morning folks! Wow what a gorgeous start to the day! Today is officially the first day of winter but you really wouldn't know it with the sun already providing some nice warmth against the colder air. Right now at 9:15pm it's 11° Celsius (52° Fahrenheit) and that should rise to about 14°C (57°F) later this afternoon which is expected to remain dry. Being the first day of winter it's also the shortest day of the year/the winter solstice with the sun rising this morning at 7:24am and due to set at 4:38pm meaning a total of 9 hours and 14 minutes. From where I sit I can monitor the changing position of exactly where the sun sets, today it will be to my left at Punta Imperatore but during the summer, over to my right towards Forio harbour which is today's photo. Ciao :-)
Evening ladies and gents. Dinner time is almost upon us on the penultimate day of autumn. With Christmas edging ever closer the weather in Ischia has still been holding up very well. Once again we've had plenty of sunshine but perhaps a touch more cloud than we've had in previous days. Right now at 8pm it's 11° Celsius (52° Fahrenheit), dry and whilst it's a bit nippy outside the lack of any wind makes it more than bearable. The forecasts all the way from now until Christmas day are very good with slightly warmer temperature than we've had today expected. I couldn't resist posting another fishing boat in Ischia Porto, this one was taken a few days ago along the Riva Destra when the sun reflected all of its colours on to the water. Back with more tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. The weekend is upon us and I suppose most of you out there will be spending a fair chunk of the next few days in the shops, fighting tooth and nail for those final precious Christmas gifts. I've somehow managed to avoid all that for once in my life so I can concentrate on my Ischia Reviewing. Well today has been very nice once again, still sunny and dry but understandably a bit nippy as it's winter. Right now at 7:15pm it's 11° Celsius (52° Fahrenheit) and it's still a case of more of the same for the next week or so. We've just added a new page on the site which features Winter Spas in Ischia so for anybody who's here and wants to warm up a bit or have a massage, check out what's available there. Ok so enjoy your shopping and I'll meet you back here tomorrow. Ciao :-)
My word is is really only 8 days until Christmas? The last time I checked I'm sure we were somewhere around the beginning of November! Well now that I know what day it is I can also tell you a little bit about the weather. Actually at the risk of saying the same thing every day, it's been another absolutely gorgeous day, full of sunshine and nice and warm in the afternoon. Granted it's a bit cooler now, 10° Celsius (50° Fahrenheit) at 7:30pm to be precise. There's still no change in the medium term forecast with much more of the same predicted for, well the rest of the year actually. Today's photo comes from Bar Calise in Ischia Porto who always have lots of awesome stuff, mainly coffee (try the Americanino) but a mouth-watering array of desserts too. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. It's just about dinner time on a chilly autumn evening in Ischia. We've had another really good day with the weather, this morning started off quite cloudy but by mid-morning the sun was out all over the island and it again felt nice and warm until sunset. Having just poked my head out to check the temperature I can tell you that right now at 7:45pm it's 11° Celsius (52° Fahrenheit) and decidedly nippier than it was this afternoon. Looking ahead, this very positive spell looks set to continue well into next week with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 8°C (46°F) to 13°C (55°F). Today's photo was taken this morning when the sun was at its brightest with the sea nicely reflecting the crimson and yellow shades of this fishing boat in Ischia Porto. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. We've reached that most poignant part of the day with the sun about to set, over in the direction of Punta Imperatore, the hill that looks down on to Citara Beach in Forio. It's a scene that never ceases to impress, today there's a purply blue tint to the sky and a solitary fishing boat just happens to be sailing across the long golden beam cast by the sun. It's been a quite gorgeous day it has to be said, full of sunshine and feeling warm at times. The temperature is just starting to drop a bit now though and at 4:30pm it's 12° Celcius (53° Fahrenheit). Tomorrow should see similar conditions to today but with perhaps a touch more cloud around. Today's photo comes from the interesting, amusing and iconic "Il Fungo" (The Mushroom) rock in Lacco Ameno. Ciao :-)
Good evening everyone. Today's weather has continued in the same vein as yesterday, mostly cloudy but dry with the occasional sunny spell here and there. It was fairly warm this afternoon as well, up as high as 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit) before dropping sharply just after sunset. Right now at 8pm it's 10°C (50°F) and as I look ahead I can see a slight change with more sunshine expected but temperatures on the decline. Today's photo comes from almost the top of Mount Epomeo (I'm talking the matter of two metres here), which surely has to be one of the best views on the island. There are lots of interesting walking routes around that area too, in fact you can see one in the photo, a path that eventually leads down to the village of Serrara. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. It's lunch time in Ischia on a grey, cloudy afternoon. As we move into the festive season there are quite a few events taking places all across the island. In various towns and villages you'll find nativity scenes ("presepe" in Italian) while things will be quite busy over in Ischia Porto with a selection of street artists along Corso Vittoria Colonna and the Enchanted Forest (Il Bosco Incantato), a funky light installation just a short walk from there. Right now at 1:30pm it's 14° Celcius (57° Fahrenheit) and this heavy cloud cover should stick around for most of tomorrow as well but there's no rain predicted for the foreseeable future. Today's photo shows the new Christmas tree in Forio and you can find a list of all the seasonal events here. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all. It's just about time for dinner here in Ischia as we get towards the end of what's been a very pleasant day. We had plenty of sunshine in the morning and afternoon before things started to slightly cloud over towards the evening. It felt really warm at one stage too but as soon as the sun goes down you can start to feel the cold just a little bit. Right now at 8:15pm it's 13° Celcius (55° Fahrenheit) which is actually a touch up on what it was yesterday. Looking ahead, the forecasts are showing that we're in for a grey spell with lots of cloud cover for the next three days before things start to brighten up again around Tuesday. Today's photo comes from Ischia Porto, a Caremar ferry seemingly on its way to Naples. That's all from me for today anyway, back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona sera folks. I write on a chilly, crisp and clear evening at the end of what's been a very nice, sunny day in Ischia. The air has felt noticeably dryer since this morning and that combined with the complete absence of any wind has made conditions very pleasant. It is getting a bit colder though it has to be said and right now at 7:30pm we're just about hanging in there in double figures at 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit). The forecasts for tomorrow are very good but Sunday and Monday look like they might be a bit cloudy. Last night we published our Christmas and New Year Events List so be sure to check that out if you're popping over during the festive season as there are lots of things going on. Today's photo comes from a cold-looking Ischia Ponte and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
