Good morning everyone, it's f-f-f-freezing in Forio! Ok technically speaking it's 2 degrees (Celcius) above freezing but it was as lw as minus 3 overnight and it's just gone up a few notches now that we've reached 8:30ish. On a personal note that's the coldest I've ever been since I've been here so it really is quite exceptional to have these conditions. Looking at the forecasts they're even talking about the possibility of snow this morning. Combine all that with the strong, icy winds and you start to get the picture. Anyway, it's the last day of the year and I'd like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I'll be back with the Ischia on Sunday Blog tomorrow (on a Thursday, I know) and for now I'll leave you with today's photo which is of the Chiesa di San Girolamo in Ischia Porto. Buon anno!
Morning folks! Things have got very chilly on Ischia, the temperature gauge is showing a reasonable 8° Celcius (46° Fahrenheit) but what it doesn't show is the wind-chill factor. There are some bitterly cold gusts of up to 32mph (51kph) sweeping across the island and the trend looks set to continue for a few days more. Despite that, there's a great deal of sunshine so the many visitors that have poured onto the island for the New Year celebrations over the last few days will be able to enjoy the pretty, winter scenery that Ischia provides. Today's photo comes from a florist in Ischia Porto, replete with Christmas flowers such as the poinsettia which are common in Ischia at this time of year. Back with more tomorrow, now it's time to go and warm up by the fire!
Good afternoon from a slightly chilly and very windy Ischia. The wind has been battering the island all morning and a quick glance out to sea will show you hundreds of white horses galloping over the waves. The temperature right now at lunchtime is 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit) and feeling quite chilly with the winds which are gusting at speeds anywhere up to 26mph (42 kph). This again spells trouble for anybody crossing between Ischia and the mainland today with delays likely and in the case of the hydrofoils, the chance of cancellations. It is however, nice and sunny and with all of the Christmas decorations still up there's a collective sparkle to the whole place. Today's photo is of the colourful Parrocchia di Gesù Buon Pastore church in Ischia Porto. Back tomorrow. Ciao!
Morning all. It's a bit of a rough start to the day here in Ischia. We've got grey skies but more importantly some strong winds of around 20mph. Gusts of that level tend to cause a bit of disruption to crossings to and from the mainland, particularly to the hydrofoil crossings. Ferries are slightly more reliable but in any case, if you are crossing to or from Naples today be sure to check with the company that you booked with that their services are running. If you haven't yet booked you'll be able to get all the information at the various ticket offices. If you need any more help or advice on this please send us an e-mail and we'll be happy to help. Just to let you know, there'll be no Ischia on Sunday Blog today, instead we'll have a New Year edition on New Year's Eve. Until tomorrow, ciao!
Good afternoon everybody. It's a beautiful, crisp sunny day in Ischia with the temperature right now at 13° Celcius (55° Fahrenheit). Yesterday morning's grey skies gave way to a sunny afternoon but was then followed by some quite stiff winds. There's a chance of a couple of drops of rain this evening but we hope they'll stay away as tonight sees one of the most important traditions in the Ischia calendar. Over in the village of Campagnano this evening will be the Presepe Vivente (Live Nativity), where the village centre is transformed into a kind of living museum with people dressed up in period clothing and at the heart of it, the live nativity scene such as in today's photo. You can get a bus from the stadium in Ischia Porto so let's hope that rain stays away! Ciao.
Morning all! It's a cloudy, grey start to the day in Forio and the overnight rain has left some residual dampness in the air and on the ground. December 26th is known as Santo Stefano (St. Stephen's Day) in Italy so for most people that means a day off, mostly spending time with friends and family. The forecast for today is for scattered showers while temperatures should see a maximum of 16° Celcius (60° Fahrenheit) and a minimum of 7°C (45°F). There are also some heavy winds of 20mph expected but as yet they haven't arrived and things the sea is calm. However, do make sure to check with your ferry or hydrofoil company to see if any delays are expected if you're crossing over to Ischia today. Anyway, enjoy your day and we'll have another update tomorrow.
Merry Christmas everybody! Just like you we've been enjoying the festivities so not much to report other than this week's blog which you can see by clicking the photo below. The weather today has been mostly cloudy with temperatures around 12° Celcius (53° Fahrenheit) and the outlook for the next few days shows some rain on the way. The daily update is a new feature on the website and it will allow us to communicate any important travel news or reminders of upcoming events on the island. Remember we're here to help so you can always drop us a line or give us a call if you need anything. We've chosen (not surprisingly) another Christmassy photo for today and we'll be back with something else tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your evening. Ciao!
