Hello again everyone. It's a fairly nice day in Ischia so far, not super sunny as there are still some clouds lingering but not the type that threaten rain. Because of those clouds it's feeling a little cooler than it has of late with the temperature right now at 12:45pm 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit). Things should warm up a bit as we get through the afternoon and tomorrow should follow a very similar pattern. From tomorrow you'll see a change in format to the blog, going from the daily updates that have been in place for a while now towards a weekly update about the weather, any forthcoming events and the overall idea about what's going on around the island. The daily version should then return some time next spring. I'll be back with the new version tomorrow so until then, ciao :-)
Good afternoon everyone. We're enjoying a "bella giornata" in Ischia today with conditions turning out much better than expected. There were some heavy showers last night along with some thunder and lightning but since this morning it's been bright & sunny. Right now at 2:30pm the sun's still out and it's feeling warm with a current temperature of 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit). Things should stay more or less like this for the rest of the week now with the only fluctuation coming from the wind or more accurate to say, breeze. Today's photo comes from one of the less-talked about thermal parks, O Vagnitiello in Casamicciola. It's located along the same coast as Castiglione which is its bigger neighbour but both have their own particular charms. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. Looking out of the window at the moment allows me to witness one of those spectacles that I sometimes take for granted but shouldn't, a beautiful corona of light seeping through the various gaps in the cloud as can be seen in today's photo. We were expecting a real wash-out of a day but so far that hasn't been the case. It's been mostly sunny with some cloud cover now and then and some wind making things a little choppy out at sea. Right now at 6:45pm it's 23° Celsius (73° Fahrenheit) and it looks as though we may get some showers later on. There were predictions for storms tomorrow morning but they seem to have modified a little. It's always a bit tricky getting the forecasts exactly right at this time of year so it's a case of let's wait and see for now. Ciao :-)
Buon sera everyone. It's been a lovely day in Ischia so far today and feeling much warmer than it has over the last week or so. Right now at 4:45pm it's 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) and there are still a fair few people relaxing on the beaches although in a greatly reduced number compared to August or even the early part of this month. For many people this is the nicest time of the year here with much more space around to enjoy the island. The sun should continue to shine for the rest of today but tomorrow isn't looking too great with forecasts for cloud and rain before things start to clear up again from Thursday onwards. Today's photo comes from Maronti Beach, I love the bright colours of this bar set against the azure blue of the sea. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. The storms of the last few days have finally cleared and left a fresher-feeling Ischia in their wake. The storm was at its worst around 5am this morning, blowing garden furniture hither and thither but since then things have calmed down considerably. Right now at 3pm the sun is out and it's a pleasant 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit), a good 5 or 6 degrees cooler than it was before the storms arrived. Tomorrow is set to be a fine day with plenty of sunshine around and the sea much calmer. Wednesday looks a bit iffy at the moment but after that things should stay quite settled. Today's photo comes from Le Fumarole Beach in Sant'Angelo, famous for its "Fumaroles", jets of hot steam rising up through the sand which you can use to cook food. Ciao :-)
Evening all. It's been an "interesting" last 48 hours of weather in Ischia. Last night's Festa del Porto went off as planned last night, managing to sandwich itself in between the storms that preceded and followed it. It was a really beautiful event, lots of people around to witness the unusual spectacle of the port being completely bereft of any boats and followed by a stunning firework display that Jean Michel Jarre would have been proud of (had he chosen pyrotechnics over laser displays). Then today has been all about the rain which lashed down in biblical fashion at one stage, catching out yours truly on a scooter ride with soaking consequences! The sky is looking angry again now so prepare for a wet Monday morning but hopefully a brighter afternoon. Ciao :-)
Evening folks. We've had a bit of a topsy turvy day with the weather today (Friday) with some heavy showers throughout the morning before things settled down a bit as we got into the afternoon. The weatherman (who is this person I wonder?) suggests Saturday will be much brighter but with the risk of some wind around and a maximum temperature of 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit). From 5:30pm on Saturday there will be some strange things happening at the harbour in Ischia Porto, all regular boats will be cleared away to make way for a celebration of the ports anniversary including a parade on the water followed by a street party with food, music and general merriment so definitely something to get involved with if you're here. Have fun! Ciao :-)
Ciao ragazzi! As it's such a late update tonight we may as well skip forward to tomorrow. Wednesday has been a mostly clear day with plenty of sunshine and just the occasional cloud providing some much-needed shade for those poor souls lying on the beaches. There are conflicting reports for Thursday's weather but the latest forecast is showing another fine day with temperatures up around a maximum of 25° Celsius (77° Fahrenheit). Today's photo comes from the pretty fishing village of Sant'Angelo. This is one of the highlights of the island, apart from the quaint village centre there are a number of beaches close by and also one of the most pleasant walking routes on the island, from Sant'Angelo Village to Maronti Beach passing Le Fumarole Beach along the way. Ciao :-)
Evening everyone. A distant church bell chimes away on one side, the sunsets dramatically on another and in the middle of it all there's me to give you my little daily update. There's not really much to report in terms of the weather it has to be said, as I mentioned yesterday it seems as if we've got through the unsettled spell of last week and that's been borne out by today's conditions. Right now at 7pm it's 25° Celsius (77° Fahrenheit) and the aforementioned sunset is taking place against the backdrop of a sky mostly devoid of any clouds. We should be in for very similar fayre tomorrow and for the rest of this week as well. Today's photo comes from Cava dell'Isola Beach in Forio, very popular with youngsters as A it's free and B it's full of other youngsters! Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. The weather wheels have slowly turned back to their normal position after a week dominated more than expected by cloud. This morning started slowly as well but over the last couple of hours the sun has come out and things have really warmed up. Right now at 3:15pm it's 26° Celsius (79° Fahrenheit) and conditions should stay nicely settled now for the rest of this week. Today's photo comes from a lovely little corner of the island, Cartaromana Beach in Ischia Ponte. It often goes unnoticed as it's a little bit off the beaten path but it comes with a spectacular view and a restaurant as well if you want to make a whole day of it there. The best way to get there is by taking a water taxi from next to La Mandra Beach a 5 minute ride which just adds to the fun. Ciao :-)
