Good afternoon everyone. Apologies for the missed update yesterday which I will put down to "technical problems". In terms of the weather it was a pretty ugly day with cold, rain and some heavy winds giving the island a general slap in the face. We have similar conditions today and while the wind is slightly weaker it's still enough to cause some travel disruption so I must stress the importance of checking with the ferry & hydrofoil companies before you set off on your journey. Tomorrow looks like it might be slightly brighter at least but those high winds are expected to return. Today's photo is weather & nature-related, these thick sunbeams looming over Serrara Fontana like a scene from E.T. Back with the blog and another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buongiorno a tutti! After the briefest of periods of clement conditions we've once again been handed an unfavourable set of weather cards with some quite miserable stuff seemingly on the way. Last night's cold gave way to a sunny start to the day but the sky and the sea have changed from bright to dim and it looks like a storm is about to land. The temperature right now at 2pm is 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit) but it will feel colder than that once the wind gets up and it's expected to reach as high as 35mph by this evening. That will inevitably cause some disruption to the ferries and hydrofoils so do make sure to check on your crossings before leaving Naples. Today's photo is a much brighter and nicer Lido Dei Maronti in Barano. Time to batten down the hatches now! Ciao :-)
Good afternoon folks! We've got another splendid, sunny winter's day in Ischia. The temperature remains more or less as it has been for the last week or so and right now at coming up to half past three, it's 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit). There will be quite a sharp drop in temperature this evening, going down to as little as 3°C (37°F) so make sure you wrap up warm if you're venturing out. The outlook for the next seven days remains a lit bit unsettled but with more sunny spells than rain. For today's photo I've chosen the view down to Cava dell'Isola beach and Gli Scogli Innamorati (The Lovers Rocks) in Forio. This photo was taken during spring when the beautifully fragrant, yellow Ginestra (French Broom) comes into bloom for the first time. Back with more tomorrow, ciao :-)
Afternoon all! After all that rain and grey skies we've finally got a nice, sunny day and not a cloud in sight. There were some strong winds around last night but they've all died down and things are looking nice and settled now. It is still feeling a bit chilly though without the cloud cover, right now at 3pm it's 7° Celcius (45° Fahrenheit) but that will drop by a few degrees towards midnight tonight. The outlook for the next couple of days is quite positive and then a little uncertain as we get towards the weekend. For today's photo I've chosen one of the best views on the island, if you take the road that crosses Ischia from Casamicciola to Fiaiano, you come across this wonderful vista that includes Castello Aragonese, Vivara, Procida and Mount Vesuvius. Back with more tomorrow :-)
Buongiorno a tutti! It's 2:30pm and we've got a bit of a grey, drizzly day today, not what was forecast at all and which goes to show how difficult it can be to predict the weather at this time of year. There's a bit of wind around too, making for slightly choppy conditions out at sea. The temperature right at this moment is 9° Celcius (48° Fahrenheit) and although it should stay mostly dry for the rest of the day, the mercury will gradually drop down as far as 3°C (37°F) tonight and with the wind-chill factor added in it will feel colder still. For today's photo I've chosen a typical scene from the road down to Maronti Beach, a horse and cart driver with faithful dog doing its very best to keep up with its larger four-legged friend. Back with more tomorrow. Keep warm! Ciao :-)
Good afternoon all and "buona domenica" (Good/Happy Sunday) as they say here. It's 1pm and the temperature right now is 11° Celcius (52° Fahrenheit) which is a couple of notches up on yesterday. They promised us that the rain had finished but "they" got it a bit wrong and we had quite a large dose of rain overnight. There's still a bit of dampness in the air but no downpours today as yet. The forecasts (if they can still be trusted) still look nice and settled for the week ahead but we'll have to wait and see on that. I'll be back later on with the weekly "Ischia on Sunday" blog but for now I'll leave you with today's photo, a distant cargo ship as it slowly makes its way south, perhaps bound for Africa. The colours sum the day up well but let's hope for a bit of sun later. Ciao :-)
It's stopped raining! Yes, finally we can all leave our homes again and get out in the fresh air. I think it rained pretty much every day last week and it felt like it was never going to end but this morning we woke to just a few clouds and a whole lot of dryness. Strangely enough the temperature right now at 3pm is exactly what is was at this time yesterday, 9° Celcius (48° Fahrenheit) but without that dampness in the air it somehow feels much warmer. The outlook for the whole of next week looks good too, sunny during the day time and a bit chilly in the evenings. We've got a belter of a photo for you today, this comes from the bay known as La Scarrupata in Barano which you can find on one of our walking trails. A domani :-)
So what's the situation today folks? Well we've still got the rain that's been with us for the last week or so but the forecasts are showing that it won't hang around for much longer and from tomorrow onwards we look set for a much more settled spell, even if the evening temperatures will be dropping without the cloud cover. Right now and just coming up to 3pm it's 9° Celcius (48° Fahrenheit) which is slightly down from yesterday. Looking ahead to the warmer months, for today's photo I've chosen the water-taxis (aka taxi-boats) in Sant'Angelo. These are a great way of getting out on to the water and one of the popular routes is from Sant'Angelo village to Maronti Beach which takes 5 minutes and costs €3 per person. Anyway, back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buongiorno a tutti! So would you like the good news or the bad news first? It's always nice to finish on a positive note so I'll tell you that it's still raining and has been all day and most of last night too. The bad news continues with the forecasts showing that it should stay like this for the rest of today and all of tomorrow. However, from Saturday onwards things look much brighter with the mini-monsoon set to come to an end. It will get a bit colder than it has been but at least it'll be dry (if the forecasts are right). For the record, it's just after 3pm right now and the temperature is 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit). For today's photo I've gone for a little splash of colour provided by the display of fruit & vegetables at Da Gisella restaurant in Panza. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Good afternoon everybody. It's a bit of a late entry for today's update but actually well-timed as at this very moment we've got bright sunshine and blue skies. It's 4:30pm right now and the temperature is 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit) but the current situation isn't truly indicative of today's conditions as we've again had a lot of rain this morning as well as thunder and lightning at times. The outlook tomorrow seems to be a mixture of sun, rain and generally unsettled. Contrary to the slightly disappointing weather we've plucked out a lovely, sunny photo from our collection, this is one of our fantastic villas in Sant'Angelo that's available for rent. We've been doing a lot of work on the Holiday Villa Rentals pages so why not check them out now? A domani :-)
