Evening everyone. We're at the end of what's been another very hot day in Ischia, up around 29° Celcius (84° Fahrenheit) at times with lots of sunshine around. The nearby church bells have just chimed for 8pm which at this time of the year means darkness, a sign that summer is gradually moving towards autumn but there's still life in the tourism season for a good while yet. The weather for the weekend should be nice again tomorrow but a few degrees down on today and then Sunday will be cooler still although still sunny. Today's photo comes from Cava dell'Isola Beach in Forio which can sometimes go unnoticed but once you get down there you find a vibrant beach with a young feel to it and definitely worth a try if you're close by. I'll be back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Boy oh boy, it's hot today folks! It feels like mid-July all over again as temperatures have soared and the sun has come out in all its glory too without a cloud to be seen. Right now at 4:30pm it's 32° Celcius (90° Fahrenheit) and with hardly a breath of wind it's really sizzling on the island today. Things will stay like this tomorrow as well before a slight dip on Saturday. Sunday might see some early morning rain before clearing again for the following week where it should stay sunny but not as hot as today. Today's photo comes from one of the most naturally beautiful areas on the island, the tiny hamlet of Zaro near San Francesco Beach in Forio. As you can see, the rocky coastline comes with crystal clear azure water that make you just want to dive in, if only! Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Ciao ragazzi! It's a hot, humid and currently hazy day although it's been sunny for the most part. Temperatures have shot up as well and right now at 5:45pm it's 32° Celcius (90° Fahrenheit) but feeling a bit cooler with a fairly stiff breeze which has in turn meant conditions out at sea have been slightly rough. Tomorrow though that wind should die away leaving a gorgeous day full of sunshine with similar temperatures as those of today but perhaps without the humidity. If you're on the island at the moment you may well have seen little trucks carrying around crates of grapes and that's because we're now at harvest time, known as "La Vendemmia" in Italian. Ischia is famous for its wines and as such I've chosen some of its wonderful grapes for today's photo. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. It's been a surprising day on the weather front, yesterday's forecasts were certain there would be some rain around but despite it being cloudy for the most part we still haven't had any downpours, at least not yet anyway. The prevailing features of the day have been the fairly strong winds which have caused some travel issues as well as the humidity which despite the lack of sunshine have made it a drowsy, energy-sapping day. Right now at 5pm the temperature is 26° Celcius (79° Fahrenheit) and that should hardly drop at all with the cloud cover this evening. Tomorrow should see a significant improvement both in terms of sunshine and heat so until then I'll leave you with an image of the glorious Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte. A domani. Ciao :-)
Hello everybody. We're all the way back to Monday again and it's been a bit of a funny day here in Ischia, "né carne né pesce" which translates as "neither meat nor fish", a bit like our "neither here nor there". That's to say it hasn't rained, it hasn't been cold (in fact quite the opposite - 27°C/81°F now at 7pm), but it hasn't been sunny either. There's been quite a lot of wind around too making most activities out on the water redundant with the obvious exception being the windsurfers who were enjoying themselves out on Citara Beach this afternoon. In a bit of a change to the forecast, tomorrow comes with the threat of rain before things clear up and heat up again on Wednesday. Today's photo comes from Cartaromana Bay in Ischia Ponte. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Buona domenica everyone! We're into the twilight hours of what's been a nice, sunny day in Ischia, a little warmer than yesterday and very welcoming conditions for the Sunday beachgoers. It's still warm enough to have all the doors open even now at 7:35pm with a current temperature of 24° Celcius (75° Fahrenheit). Tomorrow and Tuesday will see a slight rise again before a bit of a jump around Wednesday, taking us back to 30°C plus and of course plenty of sunshine around. One of the features of the island at the weekends is the large number of boats that congregate around some of the little bays or beaches such as San Francesco Beach where there were dozens around today or Maronti Beach as shown in today's photo. Back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Evening all. Night time has closed in on us leaving a starry sky above, an image which is echoed out at sea as a few fishermen stealthily go about their dimly-lit task. We've had a really nice, warm day with lots of sunshine around and a maximum temperature of 25° Celcius (77° Fahrenheit) and a minimum of 21°C (70°F) expected around midnight. There are a few wispy clouds around and this pattern will be repeated through to the middle of next week, after which there's a bit of a mini-heatwave expected to last into the following weekend. Today's photo comes from a side of Ischia that's just bursting with old world charm and character, Fisherman's Beach which kind of straddles Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Back with another update tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. It's that special time of the week again when you can start to cast your minds towards leisure instead of work. Here in Ischia we've had another mostly nice day, yes there were a few clouds around this morning but since then it's been nice and feeling considerably warmer than it has of late. Right now for example at 6pm it's 29° Celcius (84° Fahrenheit) and things look set fair for the weekend. Into next week we might see a few clouds around on Monday but temperatures will be on the rise again after that, up into the 30's (86's!) by Thursday. Tomorrow sees an important event in the Ischia calendar, La Festa di Santa Maria al Monte in the hills above Forio. For now I'll leave you with one of the symbols of Ischia, the lemon and I'll be back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Hello! Just about in the nick of time before the day is officially over here's today's update. Coming much later than usual due to the excellent event hat took place in Ischia Porto this evening, the Festival del Buon Pescato (Festival of Good Fishing more or less). Apart from having some very tasty, (not to mention free!) fish washed down with some wine, there was a spectacular projection display set against the harbour houses of the Riva Destra followed by a dazzling firework display. Weather-wise it's been much nicer today and tomorrow should see something similar with temperatures in the mid 20's Celcius (high 70's Fahrenheit) and no rain expected. Today's photo comes from Castiglione Thermal Park in Casamicciola and I'll be back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. As forecast yesterday today has been like an E. L. James Novel but I'm referring more to the number of shades of grey rather than any erotic romance (pity I know). Looking outside now there's a dark grey sea set against a light grey horizon with some medium grey clouds above. We've had several showers as well, most of which came this morning and all this with a bit of a chill in the air makes for some quite unseasonal weather. Right now at 6:30pm it's 17° Celcius (63° Fahrenheit) but despair not as tomorrow and the rest of the week looks much better with plenty of sunshine around and much warmer too. With all this in mind for today's photo I've chosen the most colourful image I could find, Citara Beach in Forio just a few days ago. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
