Good afternoon everybody, it's just after midday here in Ischia. We've got another one of those days with quite a lot of cloud around, no rain as yet but you feel like it might come at any time. The temperature right now is 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit) and there's the general feeling that things are warming up a bit after those very unusual low temperatures that we had around Christmas and the new year. There is some rain expected for tomorrow but the whole of next week looks to be nice and sunny but with lower evening temperatures. Today's photo is of one of those "where the locals eat" restaurants, Il Ritrovo in Panza which I can personally vouch for :-) I love the graffiti on the wall outside and it just says "Italy" to me. Enjoy your weekend, ciao!
Buongiorno a tutti! It's a little before midday in Forio on the west coast of Ischia and right now the conditions are a little overcast with some dampness in the air as well. The current temperature is 13° Celcius (55° Fahrenheit) which is about as high as it will reach for the rest of the day. There is a chance of some light rain this afternoon and in general the next three days are looking a little unsettled with more cloud cover tomorrow and showers on Sunday before brightening up at the beginning of next week. In the face of all that grey I thought I'd try and brighten the mood a little with some nice colourful fridge magnets which were snapped in a shop in Sant'Angelo yesterday. Anyway that's all for today, the working week is nearly over and I'll be back again tomorrow, ciao!
Good Morning everyone, it's just a few minutes before midday in Ischia and we've got a slightly mixed day in terms of the weather. After a bright start yesterday we had some heavy rain for several hours early evening and a few spots overnight too. So far this morning we've had some sunny spells but right now it's clouded over a bit. The current temperature is 14° Celcius (57° Fahrenheit) and for the rest of the day we should see a continuation of sunshine and cloud. Looking ahead to the rest of the week we should have more of the same but with a chance of some rain on Sunday. Today's photo comes from Mount Epomeo in Panza, it was taken a few days ago at around 4pm when the full moon was fully visible during the daytime. Back with another update tomorrow :-)
Morning all! It's just coming up to midday in Ischia and we've got another beautiful 2015 day. After a slightly murky start it's all brightened up and we've got a very warm feeling 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit) showing on the temperature gauge. Today is a sad day for many people as it's the first back to either work or school and also the day when the Christmas decorations come down. You could also look at it from another point of view and say that this is the day when the year really gets underway as we all now start looking towards Easter. In memory of the decorations coming down I will leave you with one final Christmas-related photo for today, this beautifully decorated bicycle in the little village of Succhivo. Anyway, have a great day and we'll be back tomorrow.
Good morning and Buona Befana! It's just coming up to 10am and the sun is climbing above Forio. We've got another gorgeous, sunny day and the temperature right now is 11° Celcius (52° Fahrenheit). The weather is set fair for the next few days and the only prospect of rain comes at the weekend but we'll wait and see what that brings. Now what was that word you said "Befana"? Well it just happens to be a national holiday in Italy and most people will be spending the day with their family and friends. La Befana is the name of the witch in today's photo and if you want to know who she is and why she's important, have a read of our new article "What is La Befana?". Anyway, have a good day wherever you are and we'll be back with another update tomorrow. A presto!
Good afternoon everybody. It's lunchtime (13:46 to be precise!) here in Ischia and the sun is out again. We've had a bit of a mixed bag of weather over the last 24 hours with some rain last night accompanied by some fairly stiff winds. Today is a touch colder than yesterday and the temperature right now is 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit), but that will drop to around 0°C this evening after the sun goes down. In most parts of the world the Christmas festivities are over but in Italy there's still one big day to come. Tomorrow is the 6th January which in Italy is known as La Befana and is marked as a national holiday. I'll explain a bit more about that tomorrow but for now I'll leave you with today's photo, a still Christmassy Ristorante Deus Neptunus in Sant'Angelo. Back tomorrow, Ciao :-)
Buongiorno! It's another delicious start to the day in Ischia. It's just past 11am and the sun is up, offering temperatures of 14° Celcius (57° Fahrenheit) and with just a light breeze as company things are shaping up very nicely. Today's photo shows one of Ischia's icons, the fantastic micro taxis which are farm vehicles known as "ape" (ape means "bee" in Italian and vespa means "wasp") converted into taxis or as in the case of the one shown in the photo, to be used as a stall from which to display local drinks such as limoncello and rucolino. Regarding the blog, as we had the weekly blog just a couple of days ago, the next one will be next Sunday when we'll be all back to normal after the Christmas and New Year confusion. Back with more tomorrow anyway, enjoy your Sunday!
Ciao a tutti! It's just coming up to 4pm and the sun is starting its weary decline already. The newly purchased temperature gauge tells me it's 15° Celcius (59° Fahrenheit) which seems about right. It's been a mixed day with spells of sunshine and cloud while right now there's a kind of mixture between the two. Today's photo is very much weather-related, taken down in Ischia Ponte this morning the image shows the mountains on the mainland covered in a dramatic looking cloud. In terms of events, this evening in Forio there's the "notte bianca", a kind of festival of shopping where the shops stay open all night (the name translates as "white night"). There'll be stalls selling gifts and snacks plus a bit of music too which sounds like lots of fun! Back with more tomorrow :-)
Good afternoon everybody! So how are you all settling into 2015? Still feels a bit weird doesn't it. We've got a 100% record of gorgeous days so far this year, it's sunny with hardly a breath of wind and the temperature gauge is showing an encouraging 14° Celcius (57° Fahrenheit). Things are looking fairly settled as well for the foreseeable future with no rain expected for another week. Although Christmas and New Year are now behind us, the festive season continues and this afternoon there's a live nativity down in Forio. The show will be performed by local schoolchildren starting at 15:30 by the Il Saturnino Restaurant, finishing at 18:00. Today's photo comes from Silvana who came across a quite charming cat this morning while Ischia Reviewing in Lacco Ameno. Ciao!
Happy New Year to everybody! Not only is it a new year but it seems to be a completely different season as well. Yesterday was bitterly cold but the weather this morning is absolutely gorgeous. The temperature gauge is showing 10° Celcius (50° Fahrenheit) and when you couple that with the lack of wind, it really is quite a jump from previous days. It's great to see so many people out and about going for walks and offering new year greetings to each other. It's a national holiday so there'll be lots more time spent with friends and families this afternoon. I'll be back later with the "weekly" blog but for now I'll leave you with the joyfully coloured Bar Bagno Viola down on Citara Beach. Ciao for now!
