Afternoon folks. It's another gorgeous day in Ischia, sunny and feeling mostly warm apart from when the wind occasionally starts to gust, bringing a brief chill. Right now at 3:30pm it's 17° Celsius (63° Fahrenheit) but as we get through the evening that wind will stiffen and contribute to a much colder feeling. Late tonight there may be a few light showers before clearing for what should be a bright, clear day tomorrow afternoon. Things will be a bit blowy until Thursday when it should calm down a bit, perhaps leaving some cloud and heavier showers towards the end of the week. Today's photo comes from the imperious Castello Aragonese in Ischia Ponte, perhaps the most recognisable icon on the island. I'll be back with another update tomorrow so until then, ciao :-)
Evening everyone. It's just coming up to dinner time on what's been an incredible Sunday in terms of the weather. At lunch time today it was 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit), warm enough to have all the windows open and not feel remotely cold. We did have a few cloudy spells since then but for the majority of the time it's been sunny and that's set to continue into tomorrow. Having said that, there are some heavy winds forecast for the next couple of days which raises the possibility of disruption to some of the ferry & hydrofoil services. In this respect, the hydrofoils are much more susceptible to disruption when it's windy so if you are travelling to Ischia over the next few days the ferry is probably the better option. Back with more tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. The weekend has arrived with a spectacular day here in Ischia. Having ventured out this morning in full thermal regalia, woollen hat and gloves, I soon realised that I'd made not only several fashion faux pas but that I was incredibly overdressed! Right now at 3:45pm it's 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit), sunny and with a light breeze. Most unexpected temperatures for January it has to be said and much more like the weather you'd expect in Spring. Anyway, who's moaning? We look set fair for an extended spell of clement weather for at least the next week or so and perhaps I need to have a re-think about my wardrobe. Today's photo comes from the beautiful bay of Citara in Forio which has one of the largest beaches on the island. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. So that nightmare first week back at work after the Christmas holidays is almost at an end and you can start to think about downing tools again. Here in Ischia the weather has been a little bit indecisive. Last night we had a fair few showers and for the most part today has been cloudy. Right now however at 3:30pm the sun is out and it's a very pleasant 16° Celsius (61° Fahrenheit). There is a chance of occasional showers over the next few days but it should stay mostly dry with similar temperatures. Today's photo shows one of the many lemon trees on the island with its fruit ready and ripe to be picked. This is the time of year when you see not only lemons but thousands of oranges scattered around the island as they drop from the trees. A domani. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. So the extended Christmas and New Year period is well and truly over with yesterday's La Befana now done and dusted. To greet this new phase of the year there's been a bit of a change in the weather, yesterday's downpours being replaced by today's warm sunshine. Right now at 3:15pm it's 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) with the wind still a factor but only half as strong as it's been over the last few days. The forecasts are showing that we could yet be in for some more showers this evening before things brighten up again tomorrow. As it stands at the moment though, the weekend is shaping up quite nicely. Today's photo comes from La Baia del Clipper restaurant in Ischia Porto with its lovely views out to the lighthouse. Back tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Hi everyone. While most of the western world are getting back into the post-Christmas and New Year work routine, Ischia and Italy are enjoying the final day of the festive season, "Epifania" (Epiphany), otherwise known as La Befana. You'll no doubt be relieved to hear that yours truly was deemed worthy of a stocking full of chocolate goodies rather than the lump of coal that the bad kids get, a big relief all round. Outside it's been a bit of a rough day so far, heavy overnight rain, the kind that wakes you up because it's so loud, continued into this morning where we had a brief sunny spell before the clouds came over again, backed up by some heavy winds which are still blowing. Right now at 5pm it's 11° Celsius (52° Fahrenheit), I'll be back with more tomorrow. Ciao :-)
Afternoon folks. As was the case yesterday we've got another grey and murky day on our hands. There have been a few spits of rain at times leaving a damp atmosphere in the air although the heavy winds seem to have all but disappeared. Temperature-wise, right now at 4:30pm it's 14° Celsius (57° Fahrenheit), with the light drizzle expected to continue throughout this evening and into tomorrow. Speaking of which, January 6th in Italy is known as "Epifinia" (Epiphany) and celebrated with a national holiday. More colloquially however, the day is know as "La Befana" with traditions centring around a witch who brings stockings full of sweets and gifts to well-behaved kids or lumps of coal to naughty ones. I'll let you know what I got with tomorrow's update. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. So hands up who's glad to be back at work after the Christmas break? No, thought not. Anyway this is the time of the year when you can start to wind forward a bit and think about the summer holidays so feel free to ask us if you'd like some help organising your trip to Ischia. On the island today it's far from summer, quite dark and grey with the churning sea making quite a racket but not an altogether unpleasant one at least. Right now at 4:30pm it's 14° Celsius (57° Fahrenheit) and whilst there are a few spots of rain around we haven't had anything particularly torrential as yet. Things should start to clear up a bit as we get into this evening but we're expecting some heavier rain and a storm or two tomorrow when I'll also be back with another update. Ciao :-)
Afternoon everyone. The seemingly never-ending new year weekend continues on what has turned out to be a much brighter Sunday than was expected. Right now at 3pm it's 15° Celsius (59° Fahrenheit) and the sun is out but the dominant meteorological factor is the wind which is up around the 30kph mark. As a consequence, the sea is looking much rougher than we've seen for a while. However, yesterday's forecasts for storms tomorrow now seem to have altered to something slightly more moderate, perhaps some heavy winds and showers but no thunder and lightning. There are still quite a few festive events going on around the island today so check out our Christmas Events Guide for more details on that. Back again tomorrow. Buona domenica. Ciao :-)
Evening all. It's been a grey, drizzly second day of the year here in Ischia. It was a dry start before the rain came mid-morning and it's been on and off ever since then. Right now at 5:45pm it's 12° Celsius (54° Fahrenheit) and whilst it doesn't feel too cold at the moment, there is a storm forecast for this evening with some heavier downpours and stronger winds. Those strong winds should stick around overnight before clearing the way for a bright and breezy Sunday. Tonight in Forio is an event known as La Notte Bianca (The White Night) where most shops in the town centre stay open later than usual and a stage has been erected where there'll be some live music, comedy, street entertainers and general jolliness. Back with more tomorrow anyway. Ciao :-)
